That statement is completely false.

There was no indication from ./configure that
there was any impending trouble.  The first
and only sign of trouble was when the "make"
step failed in a surprising way.

I spoke softly for a long time and was ignored.

When people announce that the bug is "closed",
based on completely false assumptions, I feel
I should explain why the assumptions are false.
When the number of false assumptions becomes
large, the explanation becomes lengthy.

I also point out, again, that I am not asking
anybody to "help" me.  I have workarounds for
this bug.  Have had for years.  I am just
trying to help Joe User.  I was slapped for
pointing this out previously, but it remains
true.
