I am trying to get Tats macflightgear 32-bit binary package to run on iMac (64 bit Mac OS X 10.6.2) but it simply crashes with no information. The package works on my Macbook Pro also running 64-bit Snowleopard.
Now, after some tweaking I finally got Tat's source package to compile in 32bit version on my iMac with debug information and I am trying to find the point of failure. I have not found the problem yet since it took me a while to go through and remove inconsistencies between apt.dat.gz and nav.dat.gz that makes fg to abort (I use the latest CVS version of these files). All inconsitencies are listed below. I get a lot of no such runway '26' at airport CYKF Fatal error: unknown runway 26 at airport:CYKF (received from FGAirport::getRunwayByIdent) Uncaught Exception: you should see a meaningful error message here, but your GLUT (or SDL) library was apparently compiled and/or linked without exception support. Please complain to its provider! Examining the issue reveals that there is no runway 26 in CYKF. There are lines 07x, 14x, and xxx in apt.dat.gz. Just to get further I do changes that resolves the inconsistencies. Then the following message type starts to appear: navaid ENSG 24 ILS-cat-I associated with bogus airport ID:ENSG This message is from function FGRunway* getRunwayFromName(const std::string& aName) in file navdb.cxx. The message says it all ... the airport is not in apt.dat.gz This is not really a inconsistency but a missing airport in apt.dat.gz The interesting part is that my 64bit binary does not crash with the above inconsistencies and also Tats 32-bit binary works on my Macbook Pro. Maybe the issues described above are valid only for my local build but there are a many inconsistent entries in the dat-files. I list them below as reference if someone decides to fix the issues and update the dat-files.
