a xml panel or not ? Pleeese :D
You can mix 2d panels with 3d models. Look at the aircraft with 3d cockpits
like maybe b1900d or SenecaII.

As some may have noticed ;) I am working on developping a Sukhoi-26 for
flightgear.
Before proceeding with flight model tweaking, I am working on a 3D cockpit.
So far I have settled for a mix of 3D model and 2D panel (such as the one found
on the great concorde)
