The graphics card required would need to be quite heavyweight, though
lod would help a lot.

The major problem is modelling the city anyway; if you are prepared to
model NY accurately, then feel free - but be aware of the size of the
task, and if you already have the data, tell us where it is :)

Why don't you subscribes to FlightGear-FlighModel   Mailing List

you will get informations and help for that project

[Flightgear-devel] is more for program development.

Does not mean we are not interested. You see and you choose the best for
you. Depending on your target.

Could you cheat and just make a hollow mountain in the shape of the
buildings? In other words, not needing all four sides for every last
building, maybe just the top 10 biggest ones.

Too bad the Manhattan model up on sell at Turbosquid has been taking down.  
Otherwise, a couple hundreds dollars would get us the model we need.
