[Flightgear-devel] Cloud turbulence
Does FlightGear currently support cloud turbulence? You know, like when you go through a cumulus cloud, there's /a lot/ of turbulence? Well, IIRC, FlightGear doesn't support have any. It shouldn't be that hard to add. Just check if the plane is in a cloud, and if so, mess with the flight dynamics or something. I don't know too much about how it would work, and I haven't scrounged through the source code enough to understand what everything generally does, but I'm willing to help if needed. Maybe we could add this to FlightGear 2.14 or 3.00? Re: [Flightgear-devel] Cloud turbulence
My guess is that the size/density of the cloud will have to be calculated for the turbulence to be even close of realistic. Also, I believe the next version is 3.0.0. There's a lot of studying behind this. Here are some papers I found within 5 minutes of starting to look: http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/JAS3952.1 http://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~ryden/ast825/ch7.pdf http://rams.atmos.colostate.edu/cotton/vita/117.pdf http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/BAMS-D-11-00059.1 Cole Johnson -- E-mail: coleharrisjohn...@gmail.com -- Twitter: @5urd Hexware, LLC -- Twitter: @HexwareLLC On Thu, Aug 29, 2013 at 5:10 PM, Saikrishna Arcot saiarcot...@gmail.com wrote: My guess is that the size/density of the cloud will have to be calculated for the turbulence to be even close of realistic.
