Just an update to this problem. I contacted DELL and upgraded the BIOS to: BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 2.5.1, 8/9/2007 This did not solve the problem on this machine. The developers may want to know of this, as it's the latest bios for these machines here. jj ---

The machine is running windows xp . (The other machine (that works) is running windows 2000). I'm not sure how to go about upgrading the bios. The error message shown included: PnPBIOS: dev_mode_info : unexpected status 0x2b (Among other things )! Thanks for your reply by the way!! jj: ht
