What big grey bugs are these? If they are sucking on the squash, you would have a hard time using a row cover, or nets. The flowers will need to be pollinated to produce. Sounds like you are going to have to do something to do away with the bug itself. I don't think I've ever had anything attack the squash, just the vine.
