ok, i must have missed some things here...
is the project that i sent you my address to join the same (altered)
project than that one, or something completely different?
did the toybox somehow chang into a notebook? - that's ok, because i
was too lazy to join the toybox project and i could join now! alas! i
somehow missed the instructions. Brian (hm, i got you under the name of
Jonah in my address book - was that naive?), anyway, brian, if there
IS any instruction that you probably have posted several times already,
it would be kind if you sent it to me off-list.

or on list for all the others that have missed everything as well.
something else: my little sister (she's sixteen) play in a kind of
proto grunge guitar band. and they're looking for a name. ha! that's
something for fluxlist! my suggestions so far:
- hugo baskerville (
- Ed
- Lobotomy (probably too much punk, what do you think, allan, or was
that alan, the one in italy?)

beste grüsse
(for all the football people - to know that the swiss are playing on
the same level than italy and germany makes us feel MUCH, MUCH, better
;-) ).

interesting writing the rules before anyone's seen the cards. Terrorist snap,

GENERAL

This project started a long time ago - got kind of
lost and run out of steam a bit - and recently has been revived. I guess the
deadline will be when Candace has received 52 cards. So, why not have a go. The
cards can look like anything, I guess, that's down to your imagination and
creativity.

There'll probably be standard card size and shape -
from a practical playing point of view - but that's probably the only
restriction. So... Have a go.

My part in this project was to make the rule book.
Here's the info on that:-

FLUXLIST: A question for Bertrand Clavez

2004-06-24 Thread secret fluxus
Dear Mr. Clavez,
We have a question about your note to the list.
Did you mean to say that Yoko Ono Piano Drop is actually the correct title
of Al Hansen’s piano drop work?

Did he give it a new title long after first performing the piece?
We know about Emily Harvey. Ken Friedman long ago told us about her. He
places her among the central figures responsible for presenting Fluxus
artists and their work, along with George Maciunas and Dick Higgins among
the artists, and Hanns Sohm or Jean Brown among the museum-builders. Mr.
Friedman describes Ms. Harvey as a museum-builder and benefactor than a
dealer. Even though she only recently opened an association, he says her
gallery has always been as much a museum as a sales gallery. He says that
Ms. Harvey, like Higgins and Maciunas, often used her own money to support
the Fluxus artists and their work. According to Mr. Friedman, Ms. Harvey
sells work when she can, but she always supports the artists. In this, he
argues that she differs from the supportive dealers who help artists by
selling work but don’t support Fluxus beyond their engagement with their own
stable of sellable artists.

Anyhow … we’ll see what else we can learn.
We are happy that you, too, seem to have confused the Al(l)(a)(e)ns.
Sincerely,
Secret Fluxus

Dear Secret FLuxus,
Your lasts posts are the best Fluxus and the most fluxian contributions
you’ve ever made to the list, please keep on, I really loved the whole
mixud-up of confusion about the apologies to the wrong people for having
mispelled their names sent to the wrong person about the necessity to be
clear when attributing a work to an artist by contesting wrongly a correct
title.

If this make sense to anyone, we’re on Fluxlist.
There is one category Alan B. forgot in his list:
Histrionicians of Art
Maybe the most common one among Fluxus followers, theoreticians and
practicioneers.

Welcome aboard folks!!
Bests,
Bertrand
PS: I’m not sure that Alan noted that anywhere in the posts he sent you, but
he has been for years the assistant of Emily Harvey (ask to Ken for more
details about her if you need) and has worked, lived, drunk, performed,
eaten, talked, etc. with ALL the living (surviving?) Fluxus Artists longer
than we did altogether. One can say that he has breathed Fluxus for years,
and hanged to its mammals to get any little drip (music) of Fluxus milk.
However, it never prevented him from having his own work (and a pretty good
one), and I can tell you it’s not so easy with such monsters around (not to
crocodiles in the same lake). (at that very moment I’m sure he his very
upset with me sayong all that, but...-Alan just send me the address for one
of your very well found definitions). Anyway, I hope you’ll find you’re
place on FLuxlist, because I’m very interested by your interpretation of the
conservation of Fluxus, beyond the pointless polemics. Emmett Williams often
works with a german group of professionnal Fluxus interprets (Die Maulwerker
I think or something approaching ) and he’s used to say that they perform
the pieces better than any Fluxus artists ever did. This may be an
interesting track for your group (even though you seem to develop you’re
interpretations of the performing of the scores).

FLUXLIST: We tip our hats to you

2004-06-24 Thread secret fluxus
Dear Mr. Clavez,
Thank you for the note. We do indeed have humour, and lots of it, in
performance and in person. Since all eight of us do not answer mail at one
time unless we are making a group statement, we have deliberately adopted a
somewhat formal approach. Perhaps this makes us appear to be without humour.
If so, we simply accept that working as a group raises issues that affect
our style of communicating.

We agree with you that George Maciunas was full of humour. We also note that
he was clear and specific about such issues as attribution and historical
priority. Many people accused him of being pendantic, and many of the Fluxus
artists accused him of being a control freak. Some of the accustions were
dead serious. Other accusations were intended as loving half-jokes, but they
were half-serious and loving at the same time.

We're not George Maciunas, so we're not in a position to judge. We know from
what we read and from our correspondence that Mr. Maciunas was a far more
complex individual than many recognize. We keep his humor alive in our
performances. We preserve the formal and slightly pedantic Maciunas in our
style of correspondence, complete with a stiff, high collar and bowler hat.

We tip our hats to you, all eight of us, to the beat of a Fluxus metronome.
Sincerely,
Secret Fluxus
Dear S.F.,
A breif answer to your question:

FLUXLIST: the Toy Box Notebook

2004-06-24 Thread brian
here is a list of the people and contributions made by such.
it would be great if we/i could get the ball rolling again.
reminder that it isn't the Toy Box this time, but the notebook attached to
it, abd there 8 left.

bibiana : slinky
kathy forer : a recording of pots and pans
  jump rope
  pick up sticks
  52 card pick up deck
  marbles
  dice
  kite
don boyd : blac baby doll
roger stevens : spinning top
blank coloring book
nursery rhymes in foreign languages
paintbox with missing paintbrush
meryl : a small rubber cow
carol starr: picture of teddy bear
crispin webb : picture of pulleys
david chirot : CONCRETE BLOCKS (a recording and booklet)
owen smith : a toy megaphone
electra girl: dolls head filled with piercings
kristen baumlier : theme song

i might have left off a few and i apologize.
if anyone from the above would like to participate in the notebook (and
those not above), then
   email me.
all that it would require is a picture/sound file of the toy, and not ten of
each as was before.
i actually widdled the above toy list down to 10 i think, so i will double
check and repost the
original final 10, but since the project is now just the notebook, i could
include all
  submissions.

thanks lots,

brian

FLUXLIST: a deck of cards - answering questions

2004-06-24 Thread brian
a deck of cards

limited: 52 3 discs
labeled with a scanned picture of the card (blown up for proportion
sake)
each 3 disc will contain either the preferred sound file or a
picture/word piece
the finished package is still being designed

unlimited: one/two discs (depending on size of contributions)
labeled with a scanned picture of the box that cards normally
come in
each track/file being a card from the deck
the finished package is still being designed

as stated above, i would prefer a sound piece (up to 1 minute) for the
cards.
word/picture is allowed, but i thought i might be interesting for the group
to play with sound.
this is an object, not a toy .
there are no rules to go with it save if you really want to use the 3 discs
as cards

I've been nearly a year on the list now, though I don't know many of you.
Now after graduating I'll have more time to contribute/create projects.

Have two projects in the way, who is interested?

1. TaPPaD project - paintings, drawings on beer pads I don't know if this is

Some of it has already been sent to couple of you should arrive in few days -
let me know when it happens.
Unlimited contributions.
2. Re-leaf box project _ coff... you want to know what's that? let me know

FLUXLIST: michael leigh emmett williams

2004-06-24 Thread alanfffo

thanks michael

that site is old and i didn't really do a good job with the images. I've got a house
full of photos of fluxus folk, just dont have the webspace :-( they would make a
pretty interesting gallery of 'everyday' fluxings.

you should read 'my life in flux' it's quite endearing. i enjoyed it, emmett writes in
a way which reminds me of my dad.

i have been extremely fortunate to have spent a lot of time with emmett (we have a
common love of red wine !) he has been very kind to me, I am very fond of him. I
discovered fluxus through finding a book featuring some of emmett's work and several
years later found myself trailing the streets of maciunas' soho with him. magic! pure
magic! (i'm filling up here!)

one of the best things that ever happened to (in my artistical career)me was emily
harvey discussing some of my work, and more particularly my approach, on a par with
that of emmett. (i don't necessarily agree with her, but what a buzz).

Oh that and emmett kissing me after my performance of tomas schmidt's zyklus in genova.

did you witness that bertrand? emily was for once speechless and i think i cried -
that might have just been the chronic leg cramps though!

It was abysmal refereeing. It did cost us the game.

O sorry, the search functions are so clumsy on this site (not my responsibility)-- go to http://mnartists.org, then type in VACUM as noted, w/ quote marks, in search box, then click on any of the people that come up, say Wojahn, and that will take you to the VACUM homepage. Alternatively, go to the site, then click on Organizations, and then find us from there. Sorry.

For more on VACUM, go to the website of which I am news and features editor, mnartists.org, and type in VACUM in search line. Youll see about half of our distinguished crew. I particularly like Mark Wojahn in avant garde orange.
