Interesting. I have a poem called Conker Time.
One I wrote for younger children. Conkers is a game most children play
in the UK where you thread a piece of string through a horse chestnut
and take turns hitting your mate's string-threaded horse chestnut. The
winner is the person with the surviving
So I saw this mentioned elsewhere and felt it needed sharing. I would
however question the authenticity of this particular analysis of pirate
linguistics.

Here in Ohio we have a tree related to horse chestnut called a Buckeye,
which has a slightly smaller nut. The locals string them and wear them
around their necks in garlands as part of the cult of the OSU Buckeyes, a
