FLUXLIST: sestinas

2005-03-04 Thread johnson alexis
If you haven't perused the sestina page over at Mcsweeney's Internet Tendency:
http://www.mcsweeneys.net/links/sestinas/

I would recommend it to you as worth the trip.  If only to read Jonah Winter's rewrite of Anna Karenina, "Anna Karenina (Or Like, Most of It)"  Jonah Winter wrote the infamous "Bob" sestina that ends every line with "Bob" ,...found here at Ploughshares: http://www.pshares.org/issues/article.cfm?prmarticleID=4668

At McSweeney's, the "Bushestina" would be funny if it weren't so scarily true.

The Jean Paul Sartre Sestina begins:

It is sensibly boring in Hell. And it's even more boring in French.  Ah, mon ami, the tales I could tell If you'd only get rid of that wench.  I feel that would be very well.  You could then take a seat on the bench.

...and goes on for 33 more lines.

Just reading the titles alone gives one  pause for reflection or mere astonishment.
(I Dreamed I Wrote This Sestina In My Maidenform Bra,  And The World Should Not Think Your Cherry, Posttraumatic Small-Talk Disorder)

So I hope you all will enjoy some of these as much as I have.

Dawn Amato

P.S. vodka was my downfall so now I stick to grape juice  : )

But seriously sistahs perhaps I should have nominated Roger Stevens or one
of those chappies. Or the Mixitup chappie. By the way the chappie's current
site only lists my email so do not bother because it was only designed to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] me off. Ahem, anyway--
truly nuthin works as good as the real thing--so go get your groove on.

It doesn't seem that the wine is working for you. You would most likely
benefit from a large amount of Vodka. Twice daily, at least.
