Hey Walter!
I am not recovered 100% but I'm getting there, I'm going for walks every
evening as part of my recovery, but I am doing better... for those who
didn't know I was involved in an accident with a semi-truck and amazingly I
only got many many bruises and a knee surgery, then 3 months later I got
married in Vegas and I am now eating wonka candy. : )

Walter, when are you visiting???

Hi Bib,
How are you?
It's all right after the terrible accident?
I'm very happy to know that now you live in a wonderful place like OC...

Bye.

Walter

Re: FLUXLIST: Nam June Paik passed away

2006-01-30 Thread Rod Stasick

Official word thru the media:

Nam June Paik

MIAMI (AP) -- Nam June Paik, the avant-garde artist who was credited
with being the inventor of video art, has died. He was 74.

The Korean-born Paik died Sunday night of natural causes at his Miami
apartment, according to his Web site.

Song Tae-ho, head of a South Korean cultural foundation working on a
project to build a museum for the artist, said he learned of Paik's
death from Paik's nephew, Ken Paik Hakuta, in New York.

Paik played a pivotal role in using video as a form of artistic
expression. A member of the Fluxus art movement, Paik combined the
use of music, video images and sculptures.

Paik's work has gained international praise from the Guggenheim
Museum in New York, and the Museum of Broadcast Communications in
Chicago, among others, and much of his work is on display at the Nam
June Paik Museum in Kyonggi, South Korea.

''No artist has had a greater influence in imagining and realizing
the artistic potential of video and television than Korean-born Nam
June Paik,'' the Guggenheim Museum Web site says. ''Through a vast
array of installations, videotapes, global television productions,
films, and performances, Paik has reshaped our perceptions of the
temporal image in contemporary art.''

so I'll need to do some digging for the others...

Got word this morning...

He was a wonderful (and funny!) man.
Unfortunately, he had a stroke in 96 that left him paralyzed on one side
and was confined to a wheelchair ever since.
I worked with him and Charlotte Moorman back in '82.
The Guggenheim show in spring of 2000 was amazing.
I posted some pix here back then,
but they may be lost somewhere...

miss you Paik...

Likewise for me. I met Nam in 1982 outside the working class Chinese
restaurant on Canal St., NYC. He didn't say much, just looked very wise. He
had his usual three belts on and a couple of sweaters. It was September.

Paik was a major inspiration for my email art in the early 90ies
and for my event scores after that. A true electronic pioneer.
