RE: FLUXLIST: Ethnic confusion
to clarify, since i seem to the the expert-- the homies are latino characters. there is also a series of homies called mijos, who are latino children. there is another series called hipsters who appear to be the african american version of the homies. most interestingly though there is a new series of homie clowns which are, well, circus clowns with a bit of ghetto style. these are completely absurd and fascinating. -k -Original Message- From: Melissa McCarthy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2002 10:30 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: FLUXLIST: Ethnic confusion Today in my local Ames department store (a generic sort of discount establishment) I saw a vending machine for Mijos -- which seem to be Hispanic Homies. And me without 2 quarters!!! The nearby grocery store had a Homies unit, but it was out of order on the day I saw it. I live in New Hampshire, in a hugely non-diverse small city, so I was a little surprised to see these wonderful little dudes and dudettes here -- and I too wonder if I should be apalled or delighted. Either way, I'm planning on starting my collection ASAP. If anyone is Homie or Mijo deprived, I'll be happy to help. Now I'm curious if there will be little Canucks, or White Trashies or Vaguely Western Euro-lings to collect and trade? And Mr. Bowman, for those of us who are somewhat electronically challenged (no scanner), may we send a Blue-Haired You portrait via the time-honored tradition of snail (or air) mail?
