I have seen this a couple of times. Do not know how it happens but the
Fontpath
in the XF86Config file gets corrupted. It gets prefixed by the fontpath line
unix:/
as shown in your config file. Deleting that line manually solves the
problem.

I am using Xfree 4.1.0 on a Intel/Linux Dell Lattitude C600 notebook.
I use it also in a docking station with an external monitor, where I
would like
to use a higher screen resolution (1280x1024, compared to 1024x768 on
LCD screen).
