Hi, I've received my account information and everything appears to work fine. In the guides for setting up CVS there are several ways to set up tunneling http://jakarta.apache.org/site/cvsonwin32.html but instead I used the :ext: protocol and set CVS_RSH=ssh with cygwin, just like I do

I agree. Over at Jakarta (especially Commons) this discussion was renewed lately. Bottomline is that it's better (and safer for the ASF) to remove author tags from the sources and credit contributors in changes files, CVS messages and on websites. All source files should probably have one author

Indeed, last vote about 6-8 months ago was to deprecate the @author tags, and that rule is still on our web site. We'll need a revote to allow them. As a committer, I personally have never bothered with @author tags, but I do like how they show outside developer and corporate contributions to
