as I'm currently on the way to redesign the TrueType/OpenType file
reading, from time to time I stumble over some odd things.
But instead of blindly refactoring, I think its better to ask you
before.
Fonts have among other things the properties ascent, descent and
fontBBox which are defined

It may also be interesting to have a look at ICU4J [1]. I think this
dependency will be necessary anyway if we are serious about implementing
complex scripts. There may be stuff there that would avoid us
re-inventing the wheel.

Thank you for your contribution to fixing this issue.
I think the whole parsing of this property needs to be refactored, because it's
Licensing is not that easy. The ASF requires that the code be
submitted under a Contributor License Agreement, see
http://www.apache.org/licenses/. Even under more liberal regimes,
having no license would not work, because there is nothing that states
that it is open source.

fatally so as long as one excludes the value of inherit from
individual properties in the font short hand.
For instance the first optional argument is font-style, font-weight,
