Note! By modifying the fo-file according to the instructions by Peter Herweg
the rtf looks rather ok except the texts Place as list-item labels for all
lists-items. Place is the first list-item-label of the last list-item in the
document and is copied to all list-item-label:s.

I added an fo-file and rtf file that have been modified from my original ones
that displays this problem only

to the 0.90 alpha 1 release from about a month ago.

Question: is this a beta of the 0.91 release or is 0.91 a beta of the
1.0 release?

This is a beta of 0.91... We still have a few things we hope to have
implemented before the 1.0 release (I believe mainly 'font' related
stuff...). In addition, although it is very powerful, we are still
finding a few bugs with each release.

BTW, at this point, our goal in establishing new releases is to
generate excitement, and users (who aren't eager to build use from
TRUNK). You can find out more about our status (and where we need

 Simon,

just curious - the patch didn't update any of the layout engine test
cases. Are those instances of ClassCastExceptions which are fixed by
this patch not documented in any test cases? If not could you add one?

Currently they are not documented in any test case. I came across the
problem while working on inline block layout. They will probably be
documented by test files that I will construct for that work. But I
will add one for this commit.

Negative values for margin-top and space-before attributes of fo:block have no
effect on the position of text as rendered in PDF format. FOP seems to ignore
negative values for these attributes. I assume the other margin-bottom, right
left, etc. are effected as well. This was tested using FOP 0.91

I tried to find out if the XSL-FO specs allow negative values here, but I didn't
discover an answer. Negative values work in XEP, however, and are pretty darn
useful. I tried to work around this by moving the fo:block with the top
coordinate property, but that didn't work with FOP or XEP.

I'd still *really* like to see automatic table layout in 1.0...

Decimal cell alignment would also be nice, but is not as critical
by a long shot.

See: http://svn.apache.org/viewcvs?rev=359364view=rev and

Sorry, messed up the commits so the bug fix is spread over two svn commits.

The ClassCastException has been fixed as part of Bug #37743.

For the NPE fix see http://svn.apache.org/viewcvs?rev=359383view=rev

I didn't manage to construct a small test case for the NPE. Any attempts to cut
down the large param-tidy.fo to a reasonable size but still exhibiting the
problem failed. I must be missing something. Any help / suggestions appreciated.
