I see absolutely no problem with creating that special class that holds
all the information about the setup for the new coordinate system
established by a viewport. You could argue that the CTM is calculated
too early in the layout managers. So far all renderers were pretty much

(some of them over 100 pages) :)

I'm sorry. I almost forgot about your patch. I started working on the
intermediate format and realized that I would need to do some changes
related to font handling in the area tree. Not a good idea if bigger
changes are waiting. I'm going to look at your patch tomorrow morning
(CET).
