Do you use the same url for the data entry form and the pdf generation view? I've had problems when I didn't redirect to a fresh new url.
Generally, though you'd expect MIME types to do their job, IE will often use the file extension.

I'm writing an application in witch I'm embedding FOP.
I want to get FOP logs with Log4j.
The documentation says that I can use :

I wish to use fop-0.20.5rc3 to process an XML doc using an XSL
stylesheet that contains both XSLT and FO directives. I extract an
itemNumber from the XML, save it in an XSL variable, use it to
dynamically build a url to an external servlet that will return a jpeg
barcode for that item number.
I will be out of the office starting August 21, 2003 and will not return
