Thanks for the answer. Since there is no release date for implementing this,
are there alternatives for FOP which handle widow/orphans already?

 Not really, they are addressed by the redesign under way.

I've seen in the archives lots of threadsin 
the FOP mailing listconcerning this matter. Is ther any news/update on 
when features like
