That's because of the new PATA drivers introduced with 2.6.20. Going forward
everything would be shown as sda and would use the SCSI mid-l
with distro of kernel 2.6.20, i got through. I used Ubuntu Fiesty.

I havent installed it but have successfully used from livecd. One this for
which i was amazed is. It considered my hdd as sda.

Yes the NepaLinux error you have noted is the general error for
Multiprocessor and Hyper threading enabled PC , disable the Hyper threading
in BIOS and check for NepaLiunux it might help to boot.
Have you tried booting Ubuntu 6.10

one more thing i missed saying/seeing.
hdd should not have problem negociating with OS. ATA standard insures
OS doesnt have to worry so much about the type of hdd. Your
motherboard/bios manages it (lets not get into this)

FC6 in your hdd on fat32 partition (or FTP) and try installing.
