Name: Dave Neary Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Affiliation: Wengo Hi, I have spent a lot of time thinking about whether I will run for the board this year. In the end, I feel very invested in the success of the foundation, and I feel like we have made huge progress in the past two years. I really want to be part of keeping and growing the momentum we have. Over the past two years, I've played a part in increasing the transparency of the board's functions, improving our relations with the advisory board, getting new members on that board, and in event organisation and fundraising. All of that is ground work for fulfilling the role I would like to see the foundation have in the community - we are looking for a business development director, who will work to increase the budget through fundraising and partnerships. With that increased budget, I would like to see the foundation grow - I would like to see us hire a bugmaster to ensure that downstream distros benefit from their collective work. I would like to hire a full-time editorial resource for our user and developer websites. I would like to see the foundation invest heavily in documentation, and ensure that high-quality, up-to-date, printed documentation exists for the platform and for users. I would like to see the foundation invest also in marketing, listening to ISDs, distributors and users and ensuring that that feedback gets fed back into the development cycle. I hope to play a part in realising this vision, if it's shared by the community and my fellow board members. And so, I propose myself as a candidate for the upcoming board elections. Cheers, Dave. -- Dave Neary [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ foundation-list mailing list foundation-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/foundation-list

I suppose it would be fair enough.. but how nice would be to have blonde, chestnut and ginger candidates? eh? :-) What I mean is that, IMO, what really matters is that board people share a common interest in GNOME.. besides their nationality, eyes or hair colour. I think idea is to sure everyone knows they are welcome to participate and yes interest in GNOME is paramount! cheers, David ___ foundation-list mailing list foundation-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/foundation-list
Candidacy: Máirín Duffy
Candidacy Announcement Name: Máirín Duffy (mizmo) E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Affiliation: Fedora Red Hat, Inc. Why: I believe quite strongly in GNOME's design philosophy of simplicity and ease-of-use; as an interaction designer I apply the same philosophy to my professional work and understand its importance. I think as a result of following this philosophy, GNOME as a desktop and platform is quite solid today and improves quite markedly with every release. Where I think we need some work is in applying the same principles that govern GNOME's software design to our marketing and communication efforts in order to increase awareness of and recognition for GNOME. More specifically, as a Board member I would like to focus on the GNOME Brand - the verbal and visual manifestation of what GNOME is all about - GNOME's personality. I will continue to drive our brand's definition via the brand book (regardless) and once finished, make it easy for others to use and spread GNOME by driving the development and organization of consistent collateral. I would also love to help in any way I can to fully address our trademark concerns so we can confidentially make use of our brand. Background (Who am I?): I'm an interaction designer with Red Hat. This involves two of the things I am most passionate about in life: my belief in the importance and inevitability of free and open source software, and my life goal to help make computers easier and more pleasant for people to use. I believe in GNOME and its ability to achieve that goal - I believe that GNOME can positively impact the lives of untold numbers of people across the world. I am willing to work hard to help make it succeed in that goal. I've been a GNOME user for quite some time but I've been involved with GNOME as a contributor for the past two years or so, mostly in a design / artwork capacity (for example, the recent work around the GNOME brand and the wgo redesign, some of which you can see at [1].) I also serve a leading role in the new Fedora Art Team, where I started a mailing list and from that built up a community that recently achieved its first major goal of providing theming for the distribution (reached in FC6). From this experience I've faced a lot of the trademark issues that concern GNOME as well. I understand that the Board's responsibilities involve dealing with issues both strategic and practical. To the practical issues, I offer my organizational skills and my dogged determination to get stuff *done*. To the strategic, I offer my problem-solving approach: define the problem its scope, brainstorm solutions, try some out, evaluate their effectiveness, rinse repeat and adjust as necessary. Summary: I'm an interaction designer with Red Hat, and a member of the GNOME community for the past two years. If elected to the Board, I would drive efforts to apply GNOME's software design philosophy of simplicity and ease-of-use to our marketing and communication efforts via the further development of our brand. Thank you for your consideration. :) ~m [1] http://mihmo.livejournal.com/ ___ foundation-list mailing list foundation-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/foundation-list
Candidacy: Behdad Esfahbod
Name: Behdad Esfahbod Email: behdad gnome org Affiliation: Red Hat, Inc. Summary: I run for the GNOME Foundation Board of Directors, because I care about GNOME and I think the Board is very important. I contribute to GNOME on a daily basis, and the board is yet another area of the project I want to challenge myself with. Why: GNOME is People. So is the Board too. I look at the board as a group of trusted people caring about GNOME, elected to make sure the Foundation, and GNOME consequently, performs as good as it can. Most of us prefer to be hacking instead. I would have been happily watching the elections if the current Board members were mostly running again. But seeing many pass it on, I feel like I should offer my share. The current board has done a marvelous job so far, and a lot of their work is still going on. As a board member I like to see we get the revamped website online, and the online store become a reality. I also want to see the Foundation have better writers, possibly funded by the foundation. I want to help better documenting board's events and procedures, and make sure incoming board email is processed as fast as possible. I like to help make a broader and more successful Summer of Code experience next year (I will do regardless). Last but not least, I want to note that in light of the the powerful Ultra-20 machine I was given by the board recently (thanks to Sun), I will be joining the release-team if I'm not elected to serve on the board. GNOME Background: I've been around for a few years, but got seriously involved since last summer. I do a lot of coding and maintenance (although I like to do more!). I maintain Pango, vte, and gucharmap, co-maintain cairo, and hack around glib and gtk+. I also joined the Accounts Team this past January and helped keeping the account request queue short for a couple of months. I still do accounts work from time to time, mostly when someone needs help on IRC. During the summer, I helped the board manage, what I call, a successful Google Summer of Code presence of GNOME. I also mentored a SoC and a Women Summer Outreach Program student. Both finished their project successfully. I was in GUADEC 2006, running a couple of sessions, and Boston Summit 2006, coordinating the very successful Text Layout Summit. I was a candidate last year. I have never been on the Board before. behdad ___ foundation-list mailing list foundation-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/foundation-list
