Supporting GTK+

2009-04-29 Thread Olivier ESSERTEL
Dear Support,

I'm French developer (beginner), I've create an application using GTK+ on
Windows platform, and I wish to sell it.

But, I don't know if I must donate to Gnome Foundation some money for each
program sold or other thing .

Could you explain me want I must do?

Regards,

Olivier ESSERTEL

This is not necessary. GTK+ is LGPL licensed which means that you can
link it against a non free software application. If you'd sell your
software and yet wouldn't offer LGPL or GPL licensed copies of the code,
your application wont be free software. But for GTK+ that's fine.

If you do want to donate money, the best place to start is here:

http://www.gnome.org/friends/

Note that this doesn't apply for libraries in the GNOME platform that
are GPL. Only for LGPL licensed ones. Most libraries in the GNOME
platform are LGPL licensed, though.

Could you explain me want I must do?

You can just sell your application.

 Hi Olivier!
You're always welcome to donate money to the GNOME Foundation via the
Friends of GNOME program [1], but you are in no way obligated to do so. GTK+
is licensed under the LGPL [2] and the license don't mention any payment
 clause at all.

 2. http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/lgpl-2.1.html

guys if you want nice postcards from Italy I'm at your complete disposal! :)

Re: Supporting GTK+

2009-04-29 Thread Dave Neary
Hi Olivier,

GTK+ is licenced under the LGPL. If you modify GTK+ itself for your
application, then those modifications fall under the same licence. The
licence does not apply to any applications using GTK+ though.

About your money question, there is no royalties requirement at all. You
are free to do as you wish (and you may wish to donate some of the
returns to the GNOME Foundation, of course). But the licence does not
require you to have any particular pricing policy - you are free in this
matter.

Cheers,
Dave.

No, there is no requirement to do that. A monthly donation is of course
welcome. If however your income may be irregular, you might consider
manually donating the amount of your choosing to frie...@gnome.org on
 Paypal month by month.
thanks, i will choose the monthly way. only by paypal? any other way?

 Thanks!
 Dave.
