joen i have used a miniscsiplus from adaptec type APA348 (cable) wangtek tapeunit Model E5150ES and a pw transfer diskette ver4.1 A herculles interface is a pc circuit board with a 25pin D type connector. regards coen van den hoek -Original Message- From: joen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2001 11:42 AM To: Foxboro DCS Mail List Subject: Fw: PWOE installation hi list pardon me if you already got this but i was thinking that since i sent this on a weekend, maybe somehow the message just did not get through meanwhile, i urgently need the information once again, sorry and thanks for the replies best regards, J. Re: PWOE installation
To Rene: here is the complete error message: everything proceeds okay until the xfer utility program asks for inserting Tape 53001, then: Port is bi-directional No SCSI adapter present Timeout 1 ... Timeout 7 Unable to open device /dev/rntape2 ... (repeating until Timeout 7) ... tar: Cannot open /dev/rntape2 An error occurred when running "/bin/tar" to the tape drive ERROR in reading this floppy/tape then it prompts for option whether retry or abort abort option halting the xfer operation To Coen: the new harddisk size is 426 MB consists of 832607 blocks (as read by Venix/xfer) active partition is 0 and size is 600767 blocks (i have tried using full size, but nothing changed) according to the document, i should use EPP (with result as above) but i have also tried setting "Bi-Dir" (in the BIOS parameter for peripheral) with similar outcome The number of cylinders is still on your limit: it has 826 cylinders, 16 heads, and 63 sectors I am not familiar with hercules interface: is it cable type? I tried using 3 scsi adapter (scsi port from tape to parallel port of PC) cables: one is Tandberg-supply, one is TRACTOR mini scsi plus, and the other is ADAPTEC mini scsi plus How about harddisk recovery (under Venix), anyone got idea? RE: PWOE installation
mr. Saputra make sure the number of tracks is not higher than 1024 cylinders 16 heads and 64 sectors. If you have hercules interface use this port. the LPT1 setup in the bios should be set to bidirect. You can also remove the hercules port and than use the lpt1 port. good luck Regards, Coen van den Hoek - Senior System Service Engineer Field Service Invensys Systems N.V. Dear Joen, Welcome in the Cassandra group. I appreciate your introduction and the fact you mention that you still have a lot to learn. Well, here is something I want to teach you: rule # 1 when reporting a problem is to give the EXACT error message when you get one. So please, try it once more, write the exact error message down and let us share it with you, I am sure we can help you getting it fixed.
