Hi everyone,

So some news about my broken laptop. The motherboard needs replacing due to
the processor being
integrated into the board and there being damage caused by overheating to the
point that the CPU
can't regulate itself without going into emergency shutdown.

The only third-party supplier who can ship a spare motherboard gave a quote of
£646, which both me
and the repair shop agreed was not worth it, since I could buy a new Core i7
laptop for that price,
and my machine is only a Core i5.

I'm still working out how to proceed from here, since I'll need a new laptop
for my projects and
contract work, and of course for my work on x86_64 FPC, but I can't exactly
afford something just
yet.

P.S. Thankfully the hard drive is in fully working order, so I haven't lost any
data. I'll be buying
myself an interhal hard drive reader at some point to scavenge data and
probably use the old hard
drives as backup devices (I already have a solid-state hard drive that I
scavenged out of an older
laptop, mainly because I had replaced it myself and is still relatively new).
