You need to distinguish the different numbering styles using Series Labels. For example, a Numbered format is: S:<n+>., which results in 1., 2., and so on. For the alphabetic list s:<a+>., a., b., c..... Use series labeling for all numbering formats. For example, I use S and s for numeric and alphabetic lists. T for tables, F for figures. >From FM 7.1 Help: "Series label Series labels identify different types of autonumber series within the same text flow. For example, if you want to number figures independently of tables or headings, you would specify a different series for each. (But each set of steps, for example, would not be a different series.) On the other hand, table and figure numbers must all be in the same series to be based on section numbers." Unfortunately, the current Help file is of little use. See if you can find the printed documentation for an older FM version, the explanations are better.
