I had met similar problems 10 years ago, when I started translating and
typesetting FM documents. There was/is not a short-cut solution to the
problems. But the lessons that I learned are:
1. Never change the relative path info in the FM files. Be careful of
your fingers
You can do this in a MIF file, and if you have a text editor that will do a
grep search with patterns, you can replace the absolute link pathname with a
relative link.

I did the save as MIF, find and replace, then saved back to FM and the
problems have cleared up.
I was going to wait for a fresh morning brain but after I did a test (on a
copy of the file) and everything went well, I just went ahead and got it over
with.
