Book to .mif plugin

2009-02-26 Thread Andersen, Verner Engell VEA
Hi
I am sure there must be a utility which saves all files in a book to
.mif files. Do you know where I can get such a plugin?

We are starting up Trados translation and as part of that all files need
to be saved as .mif files.

are scripts that will do it.

Thanks everyone for your help! I got it working.

2009/2/24 Angela Provan angela.pro...@maptek.com.au

 Hi All,

I have a quick question about simple numbering options. I am creating a
 doco with numbered paragraphs i.e.

 2
 2.1
 2.1.1

 2.2
 2.2.1

I have set these as heading 1, heading 2 and heading 3 but having
 difficulty with the numbering.
I'm still new to FM and therefore fumbling my way through it so any help
 would be greatly appreciated!

 Thanks

Using wickies

Our Honeywell doc group is currently using Frame 7.1, but we're considering

FrameMaker 8 behavior

Esteemed colleagues,

I am using FrameMaker 8.0 p273. The program seems very jittery. It flashes at

Re: Using wickies

2009-02-26 Thread Art Campbell
I've only used a wiki review process a couple times, but it was way
clunky, at least from the writer's point of view. As far as editing it
up to a documentation standard for customer distribution goes, you
certainly could do it with enough time and cycles... probably more
cycles than in a doc publishing environment because the writing and
editing tools aren't as sophisticated.

If I were you, or Honeywell, I'd look at using Acrobat to conduct
shared reviews because it's much easier to manage and more productive.
As well as generating an audit trail of the comments and their
disposition.

Unless you're really wedded to vintage software, FM 9 in combo with
Acrobat lets you conduct the review in Acrobat and then import the
comments back into Frame for the edit cycle.

***
And of course you have the option of exporting from Frame to a format
that can be integrated into a wiki and form the core of the doc.

Just my $.02.

Cheers,
Art

Resizing reference pages in FM 8

2009-02-26 Thread Hedley Finger

All:

I am developing a new template by recycling an old template. The new
template has a different page size and, although all the format names
are the same, the format definitions are different.

How surprising to find that the first reference page had acquired the
new page size but all the other ref pages still had the old template's
page size. I saved the partly customised template to MIF, opened it in
Notepad++ (it supports Unicode) and changed all the PageSize 210.0 mm
297.0 mm lines in the ReferencePage definitions to PageSize 150.0 mm
225.0 mm, then saved the template.mif file.

Opening the MIF file in FM 8 now showed reference pages (other than the
first, which was correct) were now dimensioned 150 mm High x 210 mm
Wide. So where is the MIF file (or FM) remembering one dimension but
applying the other incorrectly? Note that page width precedes page
height in a PageSize ... statement for BodyPage, MasterPage, and
ReferencePage elements.

Probably not a high priority for Adobe to fix but it sure confuses the
users when they are confronted by this departure from the page sizes
elsewhere in the template. Any explanations welcome, the wilder the better.

Regards,
Hedley

Esteemed colleagues,

I am using FrameMaker 8.0 p273. The program seems very jittery. It flashes at
me from time to time, and the screen will occasionally go white when I click
and drag an item. The screen-going-white behavior also occurs when I "Save
as..." to create a PDF. It seems to be working okay other than these little
tics. But, they raise a concern on my mind that something isn't right and may
rise up at an inopportune moment to bite me in the butt.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Using wickies

Cheers,
Art

Systec has the "Book Transfer FM <-> MIF" utility. 29 euros to license.

Hi Tom,

In this case, it would be particularly helpful to know the details of your
system. OS make and model (e.g. XP SP3), amount of RAM and the processor on
your computer (e.g., P4 3.2 GHz). Once we have that, the learned folks (not
me) can more easily address your question.

While you're poking around gathering system info

If I were you, I'd make sure that you have the latest & greatest
drivers for your video card loaded.

Because it sounds like a display problem (not a FM problem, so far),
that would be the first thing to check and update.
