AW: PDFs having a mixture of A4 and A3 page sizes

2011-07-08 Thread Maike Roeder
Hi Claire,

There's a solution for your problem using FrameMaker 10.

The new version of the plug-in collection 'Finalyser'
(http://www.finalyser.de/en/finalyser.html) supports creating PDFs with
books/documents that contain different page orientations and page sizes.

There's a free 30-day trial during which you can try this feature (just
activate it under 'Extended Scripts PDF tools').

Be sure to set the page size in the printer settings in FM to the
largest page size in your book (A3).

Betreff: PDFs having a mixture of A4 and A3 page sizes

Dear all

I was recently asked to test whether we could produce a PDF with mixed
page sizes. I did some experimentation with a colleague using Framemaker
7.2 and Acrobat 8/9, to find out if I could.

The results were:

1) All chapters except one had their master page size set to A4,
with the one chapter at the end set to A3. Both versions of Acrobat
created the manual but the A3 sized chapters were cropped to A4.

2) Having set the Acrobat setting in Distiller to A3, it only
created the whole document as A3. I tried it again to size to A4, but
got the same result as in Number 1.

3) My colleague tried separating the files. He created the main
chapters of the pdf as A4 and created the A3 sized chapter separately,
outside the book file. Then he tried to insert the pages, but Acrobat
didn't like it.

Does anyone know of a setting that I've missed so that when someone
sends a pdf to print, it will automatically print my last chapter as A3,
instead of A4?

I thought that due to the nature of Acrobat, it would only create a PDF
as one size, not varying sizes, otherwise there would be an option to
automatically resize pages.

In the event of the latter, does anyone know of any changes, to support
this option, with respect to this in Acrobat 10?

Kind regards

FrameMaker 10 Interface/Accessibility questions

2011-07-08 Thread Harding, Daniel B
I suspect I'm out of luck on these, but it doesn't hurt to ask:

FrameMaker 10.0.1.1402
Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

1. When I am reconciling index entries, I keep all the individual book
files open in separate undocked windows, which keeps them from opening in the
primary workspace as I edit a zillion index markers. With 10-20 windows open,
it becomes difficult to know which window is the currently active chapter
(sometimes I need to open that window a bit larger to check context of a
marker) because there is ZERO color difference between active and inactive
windows. I have not found any way to make the active file window stand out from
all the others. This appears to be a Framemaker issue rather than Windows, as
all Aero effects are disabled on windows generated within FrameMaker

2. I need the i-frame text position indicator (cursor) within the
document (not the hovering cursor that moves as you move your mouse) to be more
prominent on the screen. I frequently lose track of where I am, and have to
either hit up and down arrows to see where the text indicator is moving.
Ideally there would be a way to set the color, thickness, and blink frequency
for it, for no other reason than aiding accessibility.

Thanks in advance.

Indeed, indeed! Thanks to all who helped out with this - I had totally
forgotten about the document-level settings.

Cheers,
