I will also echo that Bill Swallow's method is what I do. I use a utility called Indexing Tools Pro to set up the master book, but you can do it by hand. Bear in mind that if you are creating a PDF from your master index, the links won't go to the individual books unless you do some additional work. Missing TItle in TOC
Esteemed colleagues, I am using Frame 10 (10. 0.1.402) with Windows 7. I have a manual with a TOC. In Frame, when I view the TOC document, the Index title does not appear. It does appear on the Contents page in the PDF of the book and in the bookmarks. I have two books that are doing this and two that are not. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on. Here is an unformatted view of the Reference Page for the TOC with the relevant tag names in parentheses: openXmlElementId $relfilename:$UniqueXmlElementId $RelativeXmlElementId $paratext $chapnum-$pagenum (Head4TOC) openObjectId $relfilename:$ObjectType $ObjectId $paratext (IndexTitleTOC) I don't know why there are two of this one. $paratext (IndexTitleTOC) $paratext $chapnum-$pagenum (Head3TOC) $paratext $chapnum-$pagenum (Head2TOC) $paratext $chapnum-$pagenum (Head1TOC) $paratext (Chapter.nameTOC) Any help would be appreciated. Missing Titile in TOC
Esteemed colleagues, The estimable Rick Quatro was kind enough to invite me into a GoTo Meeting session where he was kind enough to point out the solution without making me feel like a complete idiot. The solution is to click the TOC document in the book file and go to EditSet Up Table of Contents. It was immediately obvious that the Index title was not included in the TOC list. After adding the IndexTitle to the list and remaking the book, the title appeared where it should. Thanks Rick. master index of multiple book
You might want to look at Index Tools Professional. A master index is one of the requirements I had when I wrote the plug-in. You'll find a routine in there to build a master index book, which will add files in proper order, skip generated files, and allow defining the prefix for each book to identify it in the master index. Finally, the documentation for the plug-in contains instructions that explain how to get the PDF for the master index to work for your configuration of PDFs. Conditional build question
I'm in Frame 9, fully patched. I have a set of client files for 4 books. Some of the chapters are used in 3 or 4 of the books. There is extensive use of conditions in all books to get the right output. I want to use build expressions in each book to select the several include and exclude conditions each book needs. So here's the question: If I set a combination of conditions for all the files in Book1, is this build expression applied at the book level or at the chapter level? If I apply a slightly different set of conditions to all the files in Book2, which has some of the files from Book1, what happens to the common files? What build expression set of conditions is applied when I generate each book? sharon Sharon Burton Content Strategy Consultant 951-369-8590 http://www.sharonburton.com/ www.sharonburton.com IM: sharonvbur...@yahoo.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/sharonburton sharonburton http://www.linkedin.com/in/sharonvburton http://www.linkedin.com/in/sharonvburton ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. RE: Conditional build question
Sharon, I never used Frame 9, but in Frame 10, if you select all of the files in the book, and then build the conditional text settings, they set for the book level. If you build the expression on a chapter level, it's only for the chapter. I'm running on Win XP. I'm just at the very early stages of experimentation and all I've come across is to save as HTML in the file menu. (I'm saving selected chapters from a book.) When I do this I get a fairly primitive HTML file and a folder full of images, which seems to be fine for my customer except that the annotations come out as grey strips. (The text frames are inside or overlaid on the images, I'm not sure of the technical definition.) I'm guessing that this is because the text is too small to render as it's 8 point Arial. Is there any way of getting the annotations to render or do I need to export the files in some other format? I'm looking for a fairly quick solution as I made my customer aware of this a few months ago but they are only mentioning it now that it's become urgent. Even though it's their fault for not listening to my warning about this I need to find them an answer quickly. Here is an unformatted view of the Reference Page for the TOC with the relevant tag names in parentheses: openXmlElementId <$relfilename>:<$UniqueXmlElementId> <$RelativeXmlElementId> <$paratext> <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> (Head4TOC) openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId> <$paratext> (IndexTitleTOC) I don't know why there are two of this one. <$paratext> (IndexTitleTOC) <$paratext> <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> (Head3TOC) <$paratext> <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> (Head2TOC) <$paratext> <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> (Head1TOC) <$paratext> (Chapter.nameTOC) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Missing Titile in TOC
Esteemed colleagues, The estimable Rick Quatro was kind enough to invite me into a GoTo Meeting session where he was kind enough to point out the solution without making me feel like a complete idiot. The solution is to click the TOC document in the book file and go to Edit>Set Up Table of Contents. It was immediately obvious that the Index title was not included in the TOC list. After adding the IndexTitle to the list and remaking the book, the title appeared where it should. Thanks Rick. master index of multiple book
You might want to look at Index Tools Professional. A "master index" is one of the requirements I had when I wrote the plug-in.
What build expression set of conditions is applied when I generate each book? sharon Sharon Burton Content Strategy Consultant 951-369-8590 <http://www.sharonburton.com/> www.sharonburton.com IM: sharonvburton at yahoo.com Twitter: <http://twitter.com/#!/sharonburton> sharonburton <http://www.linkedin.com/in/sharonvburton> http://www.linkedin.com/in/sharonvburton -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Conditional build question
Sharon, I never used Frame 9, but in Frame 10, if you select all of the files in the book, and then build the conditional text settings, they set for the book level. If you build the expression on a chapter level, it's only for the chapter. Vertical line at right edge of graphics frame
Beverly, I have no idea if this is similar to the experience I had, but... In my case, I had a text frame (no background fill or colour) placed over a coloured graphic for a brochure I was converting to PDF and printing in high quality. If I had View > Borders selected in FM when printing to PDF, a thin white line appeared where the text frame was, but only on the hard copy of the document, not on screen. If I deselected the View Borders option before I printed, the thin white line disappeared. If you work with Borders visible maybe try turning that feature off just before printing to see if that makes a difference. how to convert FrameMaker file to SGML format
Now that I am done with my Component Maintenance Manual, I have been asked to deliver it in SGML format. I did not create it using Structured FrameMaker. I have searched the web for information and I am confused on how exactly this works. If anyone has any information on how to convert a FM document to SGML format, I would very much appreciate it. Importing PDF Comments into FrameMaker 10
Hi all, I actually think I figured out the problem here. If a block of text is being edited (deleted or replaced) and the text happens to contain content that cannot be in track text (TT) edits , such as variables, and xrefs, then a marker is created which contains the edit. The track text edits only work if the content being edited is only text. I did not realize this. I assumed the text surrounding the marker text would be placed in TT edits and only thing that cannot be in a TT edit would be in the marker. I must say this significantly reduces the usability of importing PDF comments into FrameMaker. its not as if a reviewer is going to know that a variable is the PDF and he should avoid editing it so it can show up as track text edits in FM. Acrobat Pro X is Slow
Hi all, I recently upgraded from TCS 2.5 to TCS 3.5. This means I went from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat X Professional. Has anyone else noticed a significant slowness in opening and navigating through PDFs in 10 compared to 9? I have 8 GB of RAM and a solid state drive for pete sake and Acrobat X still noticeably lags when loading a PDF, selecting a link etc. According to this forum post, I am not alone. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3796164 One suggestion was to disable the enhanced security, which I did. Once I did, I did notice a small improvement in speed but nothing enormous. The most "expensive" operation is opening the comment pane to review the commands made in a PDF. Scrolling through the list or selecting a comment almost makes the PDF hang. And of course, reviewing PDF comments is basically the only reason I use Acrobat. Also, please keep in mind that this is after TWO reinstalls of the entire TCS 3.5 suite. At this point, I am thinking about just using Acrobat Reader 9 to review comments, which I find pathetic. I find it unbelievable that adobe would release product with this amount instability. Sincerely, Joseph Lorenzini PS Can someone explain to me why you can't resize the comment pane in Acrobat Pro X? And yes that's more of a rhetorical question. :( -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.frameusers.com/pipermail/framers/attachments/20110922/36020b9a/attachment.html>
