Re: Confluence 4 export: the one feature that would justify my upgrading from FM10

2012-11-22 Thread Roger Shuttleworth
There was a Confluence plugin that would import a ditamap into
Confluence 3.5. I believe it was called Dita2Confluence and was
developed by Lisa Dyer. It worked pretty well once you got the
environment variables sorted out. But it was only one-way, so you
couldn't use it to update your XML files.

Then Confluence moved from wiki markup in v.3 to XHTML in v.4, rendering
the import utility obsolete. As far as I know there has been no
development of it since then. Indeed, in moving to v.4 Confluence broke
a number of other things, including most if not all of our user macros.
We are still using 3.5.

Re: Confluence 4 export: the one feature that would justify my upgrading from FM10

2012-11-22 Thread Robert Lauriston
Confluence 4's Import from Disk feature uses the undocumented XML
format created by the Export to XML feature.

I experimented with using Webworks ePublisher Designer to convert from
FrameMaker to Confluence 4. It looks fine, but when you edit a page
the code is an uneditable mess of macros and whatnot due to Webworks
using Confluence 3.x wiki markup rather than Confluence 4 XHTML. It
would be fine for read-only publishing.

Replaced images not saved to XML?

2012-11-22 Thread Roger Shuttleworth

Hello All

FrameMaker 11, DITA, with DITA-FMx installed.

I wonder if anyone else has seen this anomaly which has bitten us a few
times. If you replace an image using File Import File option,
FrameMaker does not replace the image location in the XML. The scenario
goes like this:

1. Create a concept topic.
2. Add a fig element and a nested image element (inside a p).
Choose image1.png and shrinkwrap the frame.

3. Save the file.
4. Inspect the XML. The XML reads:

figtitleMy image Placeholder/title
pimage href=image1.png height=144 width=191 align=center
placement=inline //p/fig

5. Close the file and reopen it.
6. Select the image inside the anchored frame, and delete it.
7. Select the anchored frame and do File Import File. Select
image2.png and shrinkwrap the frame.

8. Save the file.
9. Inspect the XML. The XML reads:

figtitleMy image Placeholder/title
pimage href=image1.png height=249 width=213 align=center
placement=inline //p/fig

The new image location is not replaced in the XML, but the dimensions
are replaced. Result:

a. You have the wrong image in your file.
b. This wrong image is distorted to fit the original image dimensions
(insult added to injury!).

Can anyone confirm this before I send a bug report to Adobe?

The manual page-by-page import I've done is too complicated to
automate. You'd want to use one of the APIs or the plugin SDK for bulk
import.

From what Robert said at the start of this thread,
he *could* import the new format one page at a time.
 The problem was bulk import.

Has anyone tried the workaround of a KB macro to
do the import, called in a loop? ;-) There are a
lot of free KB macro utilities olut there.

I have just tested this. Indeed, when you import a new image into an
existing anchored frame, the href attribute is not updated to the new image
path and name, in your example image2.png. However, I don't think this is a

My images are not distorted because I'm not using the width and height
