Re: Query about what happens in structured Frame
Theresa, I remember learning Frame for the first time in 2006. Many long days at the PC that summer. I went straight into structured Frame to print large (1,200 page) XML documents to PDF for commercial printing. These documents were already being transformed to HTML and another CD publishing format called Folio Views that we have used since 1990. I've slowly learned many of the unstructured basics over the years, but it's mostly just open the file in Frame, make a few image, table and page numbering adjustments and click print. If you are not familiar with XML, DTD, XHTML, XSLT, CSS, EDD and Read/Write rules what you may need is a concept overview. Myself, I find it difficult to request help or oversee a project if the terminology does not fit together in my mind and flow off of my tongue freely. We author, track, and translate documents using an in-house application that stores the content in a SQL Server database. The data is exported out of the database to a single XML file and transformed to XHTML for web publishing, or opened directly into Frame and printed to a PDF file for commercial printing of hardcopy books. I am not looking for work and don't have time to teach you the details, but I am willing to connect via a meeting app and show you the components of the DB to XML/HTML to Frame process. RE: The Problem with Long Titles in Generated Lists
I agree, this manual work of inserting soft returns to the index is very irritating. Your solution didn´t work for me. On the reference page I have $pagenum (the first is a tab stop) I tried \t$pagenum and \t\t\t$pagenum But it did not change the index output Still looks like this: Nhgjgkjgjhgkh ghgjhg ..154, 217 232 And for other entries: Nhgjgkjgjhgkh ghgjhg ..154, 217 232 .268, 395 Any ideas? RE: The Problem with Long Titles in Generated Lists
Maybe I'm missing something here, but isn't this just as simple as changing the paragraph setting of your second and subsequent lines to start at the point of the end of the leader dot's of the first line? Also, while this may not work in this case, I often control line breaks in the generated files by putting non-breaking spaces between words at the end of the line in headings that don't wrap properly. This causes them to be brought down to the second line in a controlled fashion. Since the fix is in the heading itself, it only has to be done once. RE: Query about what happens in structured Frame
Hi Theresa, I wouldn't spend a lot of time with conversion tables, unless it is just for educational purposes. The idea (as I understand it) is for you to take the XHTML that is generated from Access and then open that with structured FrameMaker, using your modified XHTML application. There is no reason to structure unstructured FrameMaker content if you can directly from Access XHTML to FrameMaker.
