When it came to distilling the files and creating pdfs that show bleeds I could not get the pages to cooperate. I went in and changed the print output from letter size to tabloid and I also changed my distiller page size to tabloid. I selected show crop marks. After creating the postscript file and then opening that file in distiller the pdf page format was still letter size which of course showed no bleeds nor crops marks. I use a MAC here and these steps are how I create my printer pdfs on the Mac. I then can show both the bleed tabs and crop marks. I have not done much outputting with a pc version of Frame. Re: Setting page size to show bleeds
I think it's a feature, instead of a bug. You need to have the full Acrobat product to make it work properly, though. The full page is being printed, but Acrobat hides the cropped area unless you want it shown. After you distill, open the document in Acrobat. Change the crop settings. In Acrobat 6.0, it's DocumentPagesCrop. I think they've moved it for Acrobat 7, but the option should still be available. HTH, Ian Bodvar Bjorgvinsson wrote: I found this out the other day. Setting page size to show bleeds and crops -- when page is reduced
This is an aside, but perhaps will save someone some work (and closely relates to the topic being discussed). I have a client who in final pages ask us to reduce the page size by 10% to increase white space. Easy to scale to 90%, but that also reduces your trim marks. To print at 90% and have trim marks for the full page you need to do the following: (1) print with trim marks off (2) in Acrobat (7) go to tools/print production/crop pages and crop page to final trim size (3) use tools/print production/add printer marks to add printer marks. Click through the warning dialog. You won't be able to see them yet, but they are there. (4) use tools/print production/crop pages to remove the original crop marks and extend the page size. Now the (larger) page size shows the reduced text and the proper trim marks for the trim size at 100%. -bob Robert Kern President, TIPS Technical Publishing, Inc. 108 E. Conditions for paragraph tags?
Hi all, We'd like to add a condition marker to certain numbered paragraph tags, for instance, to be able to show tables with or without the table title. With the NoTitle condition on, the table title would not show; with the NoTitle off, the table title would be shown. Is is possible to type the condition marker to the numering properties in the Paragrah Designer for the table title paragraph tag? If yes, how is it done? Since what you want to do, however, is to show or hide table titles, there are at least a couple of techniques you can try: 1) Move the table titles into heading rows that straddle all columns. You can make a table row conditional. 2) Edit the document with table titles showing. You can delete the table titles by changing the Title Position property in the table format to No Title. If you want to change only some table titles, you can set this property only for tables with a particular table tag, or for tables with a tag containing a specified string. Just make sure not to save this version of the file unless you give it a new name; the table titles really will be gone. --Lynne Lynne A. Price Text Structure Consulting, Inc. However I want to avoid using paragraph overrides. TIA Karen West Technical Writer Cyberscience Corp http://www.cyberscience.com
Setting page size to show bleeds
I think it's a feature, instead of a bug. You need to have the full Acrobat product to make it work properly, though. The full page is being printed, but Acrobat hides the cropped area unless you want it shown. After you distill, open the document in Acrobat. Change the crop settings. In Acrobat 6.0, it's Document>Pages>Crop. I think they've moved it for Acrobat 7, but the option should still be available. HTH, Ian Bodvar Bjorgvinsson wrote: >I found this out the other day.
108 E. Bulleted list bug when saving as XML in 7.0p579
Hi, Karen: Just a guess: is it possible that the hyphen in is the problem? Try renaming it with underscore. >I have a chapter where page 1 ends with a bulleted list, page 2 then starts >with a Heading (Heading1_TOP), which is the counterpart to Heading1 but >simply has a Start of 'Top of page'. Peter Gold wrote: > Just a guess: is it possible that the hyphen in is the > problem? Try renaming it with underscore. It is indeed, but it's the other way around. In Frame my tag is called Heading1_TOP which translates in XML to Heading1-TOP. If I change it to Heading1-TOP in Frame then the problem is resolved, so it's the underscore that is causing the problem. Doesn't XML like underscores? Thanks for your help Peter. Karen

You're welcome, Karen! I don't know enough to be certain, but I suspect that you might benefit from those FM-XML behaviors that were improved in version 7.1 and 7.2.
Apply the desired conditions to one paragraph, copy special>conditional format, and then search for the paragraph tag with replace by pasting selected. HTH, Eric L. Hi Annu... I know of no way to do this other than through a plugin or FrameScript. It would be a fairly simple plugin to develop .. if you're interested, contact me (or any other plugin developer) off list. Annu, As others have explained, you cannot make paragraph tags conditional. Conditions for paragraph tags?
Hi, Annu: (Apologies if this is a duplication. I thought I replied to this post, but didn't see it appear on the list.) One approach is to apply a condition to the table title row, to show/hide the complete title. However, if your intent is to control whether or not the autonumber appears, but always display the table title text, you have these options: * use two paragraph formats for table titles; a run-in format that contains the autonumber, and an "in-column" (normal) format that contains the text. Use Edit > Copy Special to place an example of the condition on the clipboard, then use Find/Replace > By Pasting to find and paste the condition on all instances of the run-in paragraph, in a single file, or across a book of files. Show/Hide the condition to control the appearance of the autonumbers. * import one of two templates to control the appearance of the autonumbers. One template defines the table title paragraph with autonumbering, the other defines it without autonumbering. The template can also have condition settings, to accomplish several actions at one time, either to a single file or a book of files. Opentype/special characters
Please forgive me if this has been covered a million times... I'm using FrameMaker 7.1 on Windows XP with Opentype fonts, but I'm primarily a Macintosh person. It's my understanding that Opentype expands the Windows character set, but I can't find anything like a Glyphs palette or a keyboard command that will enable me to enter a simple "less than or equal" sign without having to resort to the Symbol font. Is there a way to coax special characters out of Opentype fonts on FrameMaker Win? Many thanks. --Donna Reynolds
Opentype/special characters
Donna, FrameMaker does not directly support the extended character sets available in many OpenType fonts. There are some registry hacks that can be performed to provide a "window" over other parts of the font, but such techniques are not supported or endorsed by Adobe AND can leave you with documents that are incompatible with future versions of FrameMaker! - Dov > -Original Message- > From: D L Reynolds > Sent: Tuesday, February 28, 2006 3:34 PM > To: framers at lists.frameusers.com > Subject: Opentype/special characters > > Please forgive me if this has been covered a million times... > > I'm using FrameMaker 7.1 on Windows XP with Opentype fonts, but I'm > primarily a Macintosh person.
