RE: FM8 8 error message when importing *.png file
Hello, I have had similar problems with documents, importing PNG graphics that were colour depth of 24 bit or 32bit RGB - which would occasionally give your error message, but most often would often silently crash FrameMaker! If my memory serves me well, I think the problematic PNG files had been created by Adobe Illustrator. As the graphics were grayscale, I simply reduced the palette to 8 bit, and saved as PNG. My favourite [Windows] application for simple changes to graphics has to be Irfanview - small, simple, and doesn't even need to be installed. OMG. A week to ship? Good luck! Okay, let's be constructive. I would recommend trying the Eclipse User Assistance Technical writers list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eclipse_tw/. Re: FM8 8 error message when importing *.png file
Can you import the same file into another application? Try saving the png as a jpg and importing that. Any other pngs you have problems with? I wonder if the file wasn't written properly or (less likely) if it has a bit depth that's too large for Frame to handle. Converting HTML to structured FrameMaker
Hello All We have a legacy Help system, authored in Robohelp, so all the original content is HTML. We would like to import the HTML into FrameMaker, preferably structured, preferably DITA. There are about 300 pages involved. I'm wondering if one route would be HTML XHTML, and then some kind of a transform to DITA XML. However, I'm not optimistic about consistency of tagging in the HTML. Any ideas? Thanks. Thanks for choosing TOOLBOX. - Georg -- Your E-Mail: Re: paragraph tag report? The Format List plugin, part of the Squidds Toolbox is the best at this. Unlike the other suggestions, it puts the results in a table, so that you can look at all your paragraph formats in a glance. Scanning a row will tell you the definition of a given tag. Scanning a column will compare the setting in all the tags. Unfortunately, the Squids site is an awful mess. It's a German site with English translations that make it even worse. So finding what you want there is pure hell. You can buy the whole Toolbox or just the individual tools, but finding the list of individual modules isn't easy-- and every time I do, they change the danged links! Here's a link for the whole Toolbox, with old versions at the bottom of the page. You'll have to hunt on your own to find the individual modules, since they are no longer in the location I had linked. Format List is worth it, if you can find it.
FM8 8 error message when importing *.png file
Hello, I have had similar problems with documents, importing PNG graphics that were colour depth of 24 bit or 32bit RGB - which would occasionally give your error message, but most often would often silently crash FrameMaker! If my memory serves me well, I think the problematic PNG files had been created by Adobe Illustrator. As the graphics were grayscale, I simply reduced the palette to 8 bit, and saved as PNG. My favourite [Windows] application for simple changes to graphics has to be Irfanview - small, simple, and doesn't even need to be installed. Regards // Simon BUCH -Original Message- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-bounces at lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of David Farbey Sent: 16 June 2010 15:25 To: Framers Discussion Subject: FM8 8 error message when importing *.png file I am using FM 8.0p277 (installed as part of TCS 1) on Win XP Pro. In the recent past I have had no problem importing *.png graphic files into FrameMaker 8. Today I tried to import a *.png file and received an error message: "The filter encountered an error and could not complete the translation." I can import files in other formats such as *.jpg. I had a quick look on the Adobe support forum, but the only references to this error message appear to be related to importing PDF documents into FrameMaker 7. Any ideas for resolving this issue would be gratefully received. Thanks David

OMG. A week to ship? Good luck! Okay, let's be constructive. I would recommend trying the Eclipse User Assistance Technical writers list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eclipse_tw/. That's where lots of people who turn FrameMaker into Eclipse Help hang out, but a week is short notice. Seriously, good luck. Shouldn't be a big deal -- Eclipse is a standard format. You could use either MIF2Go (www.omsys.com) or RoboHelp (part of the TCS2) to generate the code. (Provided, of course, that they/you have already identified what goes into the help.) Contact me off-list if you want to farm it out. Cheers, Art Art Campbell art.campbell at gmail.com "... Dear Tori, I am a rookie but could nevertheless set up a Frame to EclipseHelp pretty easily using Mif2Go (with some tremendous help from Jeremy of the omsys support team). The thing is that we needed the whole content to be generated as an EclipseHelp, which made things easier. Client Needs FrameMaker --> Eclipse Help provider
Do they have an existing stylesheet? Is this context-sensitive? Do they require set filenames? Do they have a HAT they want used or is this a one-off project? While a week *could* be enough time, my experience shows that generally with a looming deadline over their heads, details are overlooked by the client given the rush (or detailed questions are answered incorrectly) and targets get missed. Converting HTML to structured FrameMaker
Hello All We have a legacy Help system, authored in Robohelp, so all the original content is HTML. We would like to import the HTML into FrameMaker, preferably structured, preferably DITA. There are about 300 pages involved. I'm wondering if one route would be HTML > XHTML, and then some kind of a transform to DITA XML. However, I'm not optimistic about consistency of tagging in the HTML. Any ideas? Thanks.
