Is there some way around this aside from hand editing mif files? -deleting unused build expressions requires me to save the FM file as a MIF file, open the MIF file in a text editor, delete the conditional build expressions, and then save the MIF back to FM format. Index Entry Formatting
Framers, I'm trying to get an index to format entries in a special manner. I can get a page number to bold in a list of entries without a problem. However, I also want to bold the entry itself. When I do this, I get 2 separate entries in the index. For example, here's my desired output: Adams, Geoffrey 3, 5 Here's how FrameMaker formats the index: Adams, Geoffrey 5 Adams, Geoffrey 3 My entries look as follows: Adams, Geoffrey[Adams, Jeff]Bold BoldAdams, Geoffrey[Adams, Jeff]/BoldBold I've tried several variations of these. I can get the page number entry to bold using the first method. However, if I try to bold the entry itself, it'll end up as 2 entries in the index from the other entries that are not bolded. I can make the bolding with a FrameScript, just thought I'd check to see if someone's got this to work. Thanks, Brad ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. RE: Index Entry Formatting
It's not clear from my e-mail client if you're trying to bold the index entry, and just 1 of the page refs or both of them. I'd suspect that the marker text would have to be identical to consolidate the entries and bold them, but I have no idea how you would bold the page refs within the marker - I'd be more inclined to attack it from the IX ref page itself. Index Troubles: No Openable Nongenerated Files?
Hello Framers, I cannot generate an index from my book file. The book error log reads Couldn't update this book, because it contains no openable nongenerated files. It doesn't name a document file that caused the problem, only the book file itself. I am certain that the 13 files in my book are openable and nongenerated, as I've been working on them for days. In the Update Book dialog, I uncheck the first four boxes because I am not yet at the final pagination stage--this is just a test index to catch marker errors and so forth and updating would be pointless. I check the generate Table of Contents, Lists, and Indexes box. A default index file name appears in the Generate: box. I have tried making a new book more than once, with the same result. I *can* generate a stand-alone index from each of the individual files. I'm using FM 9 on Windows 7 through Parallels 6. The problem existed with p237; updated to p250 but same result. Apparently I can't update any further, as I get a cannot overwrite file error in the Adobe Updater. These same files gave me no trouble on a different machine with the same configurations several days ago. Any idea what might have gone wrong? (From the book window, hold the Shift key and go to File Open All Files in Book.) Do you have unresolved cross-references, missing fonts, etc.? To update/generate, FM has to open and scan all the files in the background. It sounds like some error condition prevents it from doing this in the background (without being able to prompt you for what to do about the error condition). HTH! Richard G. RE: Index Troubles: No Openable Nongenerated Files?
Every file generates a missing font message! But if that were the cause of the index problem, wouldn't Frame stop background-file-opening at the first flawed file it encountered in the book? Instead, Frame goes through several files before the error message appears and the operation stops. And missing fonts aren't cited in the book error report. I have painstakingly migrated from Type 1 fonts to Open Type fonts, and equally carefully installed the new fonts on several machines. We have long dealt with false missing font errors. Of course I'll make a final pass for font irregularities, but there has never been one foolproof cure to that problem. Frame used to provide useful error messages--condition problem, missing fonts, color inconsistencies, etc. Now I'm lucky if I get book is inconsistent. :-( Hey, if I can get an index, I'll do whatever it takes. :-) Thanks, Karen At 7:00 PM -0700 5/26/11, Combs, Richard wrote: When you open a file with an error condition, FM should display a dialog box informing you of the problem. There's a permanent solution if you're certain that: -- All the fonts you really want are there. -- Nothing visible is using anything else. -- Or at least, the fonts FM is substituting for the missing ones (listed in the Console window after you open a file) are acceptable replacements. But you may want to make backups first in case you're wrong. :-) 1) Close all your files. 2) Go to File Preferences General, turn off Remember Missing Font Names, and click Set. 3) Open a file with missing fonts. When prompted if you want to permanently replace the missing fonts with available ones, click OK. 4) Save the file, making the font substitution permanent. 5) Repeat for each file with missing fonts. This permanently replaces each missing font with the one FM chose to substitute. You can even control what gets substituted by editing the [Fonts] section of your maker.ini file.
