Adding a column to multiple tables
All, I have a two chapters in a guide that I am currently working on that have over 100 tables each. The format for the tables was supposedly locked down, but now, I have been asked to add an additional column to every table. It would be the last (right-most column) in the table and it must have width of 1.25. Is there a way to semi-automate this process as at all in Framemaker? If I were copying rows that would be one thing as Framemaker gives you the option about the location to paste copied table rows but not w/ columns. Right now, I am just pointing and clicking and using the Insert column and Resize column options and at this rate, I will burn half a day! Re: Adding a column to multiple tables
Try Rick Quattro's Table Cleaner plugin. There's an option for adding columns to tables, and it also lets you resize all the columns in all the tables at the same time (as I recall; been a while since I had to use that feature). http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/tablecleaner/index.htm Worth the money, IMNSHO. Hi Lin, Thanks for the generous recommendation. However, TableCleaner does not have a command to add columns to multiple tables. Thanks. Oh, dear. I saw the option for Add Rows or Columns and made an assumption. My bad, and I'm sorry, Tammy. :( But his plugin DOES let you resize all the columns at the same time, and I hope that part helps. RE: Adding a column to multiple tables
No worries. I figured a somewhat quick way by copying the Column Width, and going from there. Re: Support needed - Word vs Frame
Many many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my plea! There were many good ideas and suggestions which will help with my case. I think my strategy may be to get another 2 copies of Framemaker for the 2 offices whose products I will be documenting, and get someone there trained up to do emergency edits. I really don't foresee there being many edits to be honest - I've been doing this job for many years and seldom have I experienced documentation emergencies :-) I really appreciate all your help.
