RE: Drop shadow in Frame 11 tab text

2013-05-31 Thread Saunders, Ian
Thanks guys!

Do Adobe actually test their GUIs with real people? The text was perfectly
readable in Frame 10. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have submitted the suggestion to Adobe.

Hi,

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I have only just upgraded to
Frame 11, and am finding the text in the document tabs almost unreadable
because of a white drop shadow.

Has anyone else experienced this, and - if so - is there a way of adjusting
the text to make it readable?

Windows 7
Frame 11.0.1.382, part of TCS4, all updates applied.

Many thanks.

Combining crossref formats

2013-05-31 Thread Böðvar Björgvinsson
Hi all you wonderful Framers!

I have not seen a discussion on this (it may have escaped me), but having
last year jumped from FM7.2 to FM10, I was looking for a way to combine a
Xref format to two elements, namely one empty holding the chapter/section
(not so named) numbering and the other, in a separate line, holding the
chapter/section name.

I did not need this until last week, and ran into the same predicament as
with FM7.x, having to create two different Xrefs.

Today, having some time on my hand, I decided to look into this problem
again, and found out that in FM10 (maybe earlier?) you now have the optioin
of looking for text or number from an additional or different element, so
now I have a format that looks like this:
Hyperlink$elemparanum[Kafli], $elemtextDefault ¶ Font
Kafli, meaning the empty element holding the chapter number. And
Hyperlink is just a Character Format Tag.

I just want to say thanks to the FM developers team for this and all the
other things I still look forward to find. :-)

Brgds,
Bodvar

Duplicate Flow Tag

2013-05-31 Thread Fei Min Lorente
I'm using FrameMaker 10 on Windows XP.

I have a structured FrameMaker file that somehow got a duplicate flow tag, and
as a result, the document compare won't work properly:
The document named New.fm contains multiple flows with the same name (A).
These flows will be ignored when the documents are compared. Continue with the
comparison?

I'd like to get rid of the duplicate flow tag, so I checked the documentation
about connecting text frames (Format Customize Layout Connect Text Frames),
but when I try to do that, I get Cannot change text frame connections. Flow is
structured. Occasionally, I also get OK to use a text frame that isn't
visible?

So I'm worried that there are invisible text frames in there that are also
called Flow A. If that's possible, how do I find them and delete them?

Hi Fei Min,

You might try opening a copy of your structured template and copy/paste the

RE: Duplicate Flow Tag

2013-05-31 Thread Fei Min Lorente
Thanks, Rick and Matt. I thought about just copying the content to my template
because I'm confident it is clean, but I thought I would try to find the
offending item first. Matt suggested showing all conditional text, then doing a
Select All to see what didn't get selected. I was giving up hope until I found
two blank pages at the end. I deleted them, and the duplicate flow tags have
gone away. Thank you!

Several heading paragraph styles I know are in use and in the book's

Hi,

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I have only just upgraded to
Frame 11, and am finding the text in the document tabs almost unreadable
because of a white drop shadow.

Has anyone else experienced this, and - if so - is there a way of adjusting
the text to make it readable?

Windows 7

<$elemparanum[Kafli]>, <$elemtext>
Kafli, meaning the empty element holding the chapter number. And
is just a Character Format Tag.

"The document named New.fm contains multiple flows with the same name (A).
These flows will be ignored when the documents are compared. Continue with the
comparison?"

I'd like to get rid of the duplicate flow tag, so I checked the documentation
about connecting text frames (Format > Customize Layout > Connect Text Frames),
but when I try to do that, I get "Cannot change text frame connections. Flow is
structured." Occasionally, I also get "OK to use a text frame that isn't
visible?"

So I'm worried that there are invisible text frames in there that are also
called Flow A. If that's possible, how do I find them and delete them?

Adobe TCS/FrameMaker Survey?

2013-05-31 Thread Matt Sullivan
Yes, a few of us received requests from Adobe marketing and management to
forward that invite and promote via other social outlets.

I'm happy to see that they're gathering opinions from the TC community at
large, as well as from the FM- and TCS-specific communities.

They ask some pointed questions, and give a chance for candid responses. I hope
anyone with an opinion about interface, bug fixes, and a perceived lack of
customer input will participate!

Much like voting for political office in the US, regardless of whether you
expect the poll to impact the product, if ya don't participate, you shouldn't
complain (much!).

You might try opening a copy of your structured template and copy/paste the

Duplicate Flow Tag

2013-05-31 Thread Fei Min Lorente
Thanks, Rick and Matt. I thought about just copying the content to my template
because I'm confident it is clean, but I thought I would try to find the
offending item first. Matt suggested showing all conditional text, then doing a
Select All to see what didn't get selected. I was giving up hope until I found
two blank pages at the end. I deleted them, and the duplicate flow tags have
gone away. Thank you!

OT: Corporate madness - Adobe software to be subscription

2013-05-31 Thread Mike Wickham
>> According to Israeli tax law, if I purchase a perpetual license for a
software application, it's a capital expense. I have to depreciate the
purchase over several years. I cannot deduct the full expense from this
year's tax return.

If I pay a smaller fee for an annual subscription license, I not only smooth
out the cost, but I can deduct the full amount in the current year.
>>

Another point to consider is if an owner eventually wants to sell his company.
Using the past CS model, he could say to a future buyer that the company holds
as assets n licenses of Adobe software, worth $. It increases the value
of the company. With the CC model, you will hold no assets, and instead have a
liability for future rentals. This could potentially cost a business owner WAY
more than any tax benefit.

Headings Missing from Bookmark List?

2013-05-31 Thread Karen Robbins
Several heading paragraph styles I know are in use and in the book's
documents do not appear in the PDF Setup for Selected Files dialog Include
Paragraphs or Don't Include lists when setting up PDF bookmarks. It does
appear all files in the book are highlighted when I invoke this dialog.
What happened to them? How can I get them back?

(I'm taking odds on "make a new book file")

Thanks,
Karen

"Drop shadow" in Frame 11 tab text

2013-05-31 Thread Craig Ede
It may have been something "fixed" in the OS and not in the FM application.
