Adobe announces next FrameMaker release, keeps licensing model

2013-09-10 Thread Reng, Dr. Winfried
Hi,

Here Adobe's licensing plans had been discussed lively.
Now Adobe announced the next FrameMaker release for 2014.
They also want to keep their current licensing model.

Best regards

Firstly, next version of Tech communications products will continue to have
perpetual licensing. This includes all our products - FrameMaker, RoboHelp,
Technical Communication Suite, FrameMaker Publishing Server and RoboHelp Server.

Secondly, we plan to offer subscription as an additional option for our
products, in addition to the perpetual licensing, so that our customers can
choose the licensing option that works best for them.

Lastly, we continue to make significant investments into our products and the
team is working hard on delivering a phenomenal release. We all are really
excited about the upcoming release of point products as well as Technical
Communication Suite and expect it to be out in 2014.

What I do is to create a welcome or home page (which is a PDF file) that
automatically launches when the CD is inserted. The welcome file contains links
to the other books on the CD. That makes it easier and quicker for the user to
navigate around the CD. Each book's PDF has a Return to Welcome Page bookmark
at the bottom, allowing the user to return to the home page to access a
different book.

When compiling a final product should I generate the separate child

Hi framers:
I need some advice from anyone with FM commercial experience of selling pdf
CDs.

With the advent of the rich media formats, my commercial pdfs are getting
bigger and bigger.
When compiling a final product should I generate the separate child books as
separate pdfs and then group them before copying the group to the final CD?.

Would the buyer have problem loading or reading the grouped files, or should I
just use my normal route of creating one huge pdf?

I also think, but do not know, that a customer with a smaller computer might
have a problem with a huge file, although my little laptop does not have a
problem with the single file although it flashes a message This file is over

If someone has a copy of Bruce Fosters ImpGraph plugin that they're willing
to give you, that may do what you need. Unfortunately, Bruce has died and
as far as I am aware, this plugin is no longer publicly available. I'm also

You can also try Felix Ritter's fmGraphicTools. I'm less sure if it can do
what you need, and I have no information on its version compatibility. You

Adobe announces next FrameMaker release, keeps licensing model

2013-09-10 Thread Reng, Dr. Winfried
Hi,

Here Adobe's licensing plans had been discussed lively.
Now Adobe announced the next FrameMaker release for 2014.
They also want to keep their current licensing model.

Best regards

Winfried

---

http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2013/09/adobe-technical-communication-products-next-release-plan.html

FM 10 not copying contents from the Windows clipboard

FM 10 is not copying anything on the Windows clipboard after a while. It
only pastes the last thing copied within FM. If I restart, it works for
awhile but then stops copying from the Windows clipboard.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Inserting inline graphics

2013-09-10 Thread Alastair Dent
Thanks for your reply, Matt.

When I do the initial paste, FM defaults to placing the button icon below the
insertion point line. Can I configure it to paste inline?

Thank other people for their responses. Setting up a document and
pre-configuring the graphics in there is simply not practical. There are
hundreds of icons in this product and I will only know which ones I need to use
as I'm writing.

I had to do that approximately eleventh-six hundred times in writing the Fm11

I set my cursor in the text, between ()'s, and hit paste. Then I used Alt+(down

When it comes to manuals/instructions, I always want access from my computer. I
never insert the CD/DVD (in fact, most of the time, the IT department wouldn't
allow me to keep the CD/DVD).

So what happens if someone needs to copy everything to hard drive (maybe a

What I do is to create a welcome or home page (which is a PDF file) that
automatically launches when the CD is inserted. The welcome file contains links
to the other books on the CD. That makes it easier and quicker for the user to
navigate around the CD. Each book's PDF has a Return to Welcome Page bookmark
at the bottom, allowing the user to return to the home page to access a
different book.

I also think, but do not know, that a customer with a smaller computer might
have a problem with a huge file, although my little laptop does not have a
problem with the single file although it flashes a message "This file is over
100MB"
Any pointers?

Inserting inline graphics

2013-09-10 Thread Lin Sims
If someone has a copy of Bruce Fosters ImpGraph plugin that they're willing
to give you, that may do what you need. Unfortunately, Bruce has died and
as far as I am aware, this plugin is no longer publicly available. I'm also
unsure if it will work with anything past FM8.

You can also try Felix Ritter's fmGraphicTools. I'm less sure if it can do
what you need, and I have no information on its version compatibility. You
can find them at:
http://www.mevis-research.de/~ritter/awakeideas/fmtools.html

Hope that helps,

Lin

Inserting inline graphics

2013-09-10 Thread Robert Lauriston
It might save time to copy and paste an existing frame containing an icon,
copy the icon you need, select the icon in the frame, and paste to replace
it.

Printing Color Images

2013-09-10 Thread Ed Nodland
This seems like it should be simple and done routinely by many others.

I have an image of a flammable substance label. It has a pantone red, a
pantone yellow, and black. I want to use the image in a Framemaker document
that will be sent for commercial printing using "Spot Color" not process
printing. How can I accomplish this?

The image is an Illustrator file. I save the file to PDF, load it into
Frame 10, save the Frame file as PDF, open in acrobat pro and use Advanced
> Print Production > Output Preview to see that the image is a mix of CMYK
not my spot pantone colors.

I also suspect that the image saved from Illustrator as a PDF format should
display the spot colors but it does not. So the problem/solution might
start there.

ANN: 13Sept Webinar 9AM PAC "Optimizing the Word to FrameMaker Workflow"

2013-09-10 Thread Maxwell Hoffmann
9:00AM PAC Fri September 13, Register at: http://adobe.ly/16OF6Fw

Migration from Microsoft Word to FrameMaker is a very common path for content
creators whose workflow outgrows Word's limitations with high volume or
document complexity. Watch FrameMaker expert Barb Binder share her tips on how
to manage a migration workflow from Word to FrameMaker, including:

== Optimizing styles and catalogs in Word before conversion to reduce document
touch up

== Word document artifacts to eliminate or avoid

== How to grasp fundamentals of FrameMaker publishing in terms that Word users
can appreciate and understand

== How to automate publishing tasks in FrameMaker via intelligent styles that
required more manual effort in Word

After this session you will have a good foundation on how to work with Word and
FrameMaker, and when it makes sense to migrate your project content into
FrameMaker.

About our Presenter: Barb Binder is an Adobe Certified Instructor and the owner
of Rocky Mountain Training. When she?s not teaching grown-ups how to use Adobe
software, she?s at Winter Park teaching kids how to ski. -- She has been an
Adobe Certified Instructor since 1997, and is currently certified on
FrameMaker, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InCopy and the Digital
Publishing Suite. Her company, Rocky Mountain Training was one of the early
adopters of online, interactive training delivery. Students attend classes from
locations in North America, South America, Europe and even Australia.
