Printing Color Images
This seems like it should be simple and done routinely by many others. I have an image of a flammable substance label. It has a pantone red, a pantone yellow, and black. I want to use the image in a Framemaker document that will be sent for commercial printing using Spot Color not process printing. How can I accomplish this? The image is an Illustrator file. I save the file to PDF, load it into Frame 10, save the Frame file as PDF, open in acrobat pro and use Advanced Print Production Output Preview to see that the image is a mix of CMYK not my spot pantone colors. I also suspect that the image saved from Illustrator as a PDF format should display the spot colors but it does not. So the problem/solution might start there. RE: Inserting inline graphics
That sounds like a good idea, except that in Frame 11, selecting an bitmap in a frame and pasting a bitmap doesn't replace the selection! I can paste into an empty frame. The pasted bitmap is placed on the centre of the page but can be manually dragged into the frame. I'm very disappointed in how poor Frame is at handling this. I could literally code HTML faster in a text editor, including adding graphics, than do this work in Frame. RE: Inserting inline graphics
As a workflow that would be simply impractical. This product has many, many button icons. More than exist in Word, for example. Many more. I won't be using all of them. As I'm writing I will be 'inventing' procedures where I need to say 'Click X to ...' I need a quick method for placing a screenshot of the button icon inline in a paragraph. If I were writing in Word, I'd just paste the bitmap and use a macro to adjust size (if required). If I were writing in HTML I'd save the bitmap as a file, then type a link in the html (using a class to control size and placing). In Frame it seems to be a four-step manual process to paste and place the bitmap - and the placing and sizing can't even be controlled with a style. -Original Message- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of David Creamer Sent: 11 September 2013 13:55 To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: Re: Inserting inline graphics What about converting the graphic to a font? http://www.fontlab.com/font-editor/typetool/ David Creamer IDEAS Training http://www.ideastraining.com Adobe Authorized Instructor Certified Expert since 1995 ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as alastair.d...@imgtec.com. Re: FM 10 not copying contents from the Windows clipboard
Hi Linda, this problem seems to be common for some Adobe applications. I have it with Indesign CS4 and old Win XP, and also with Indesign CS6 and Win7. Fortunately, I can work for quite a long time... Suddenly, nothing can be copied/pasted, not even text. In the Adobe forums, this is vividly discussed, mostly concerning Photoshop. I did not find any solution that seemed to be working for everybody/every constellation. Some had a solution when unstalling certain plugins or certain applications (like Skype). Others reported this to be specific for their 64bit installation of Windows, not for a 32bit installation. Some think the problem is related to Adobe, some think, Microsoft should fix it. So, it is really hard to say what could help you. While searching with windows clipboard lock I found something that was new to me in Win7: The clipboard may be emptied with a special command sequence. -- http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-empty-the-clipboard-in-windows-7-tip/ Well, I do not know, if this works while FrameMaker is still running... Maybe the blocking is stronger... Or: You could try one of the many Clipboard manager utilities to see if using them can help you out. Good luck - Tino H. Haida, Berlin Linda Rose: FM 10 is not copying anything on the Windows clipboard after a while. It only pastes the last thing copied within FM. But it appears that one must listen online using Adobe's player. Now, I don't mind that, in general, but it's really not very useful while traveling in a car (someone else driving :):) or on a plane (someone else flying :). I also don't wish to log in using my Adobe ID from a public computer anywhere (library, other WiFi spot). So . is there any way to download these recordings, or even some of them, as plain old video files, providing no interaction or special features, just to view/review? FM 10 find/replace in selection not working if using Change and Find
Yesterday, while attempting to do a series of find/replace actions in a selected table I found that there is a bug that prevents that if you attempt to step through the selected area with the Change and Find button . After the first change the select area is deselected and the message Not found is displayed. The same happens with a simple text range (non-table). Is this the expected behavior? Note that the Change All action completes successfully, but that means you must be sure that all occurrences of the target have to change. Inserting inline graphics
ANN: Adobe share's licensing plan for next release Tech Comm Suite
I am sure many of you would have come across the announcement made by Adobe in May of this year, about the change to licensing for Creative products. Since this announcement was made, there has been plenty of lively discussion in the Tech Comm user community as well about the strategy of Adobe Tech Comm products. Our Sr. Product Manager ? Adobe Technical Communication Products, Kapil Verma, outlines Adobe's strategy for licensing with Tech Comm Suite products in the next release in a blog, "Adobe Technical Communication Products Next Release Plan." FM 10 not copying contents from the Windows clipboard
While searching with "windows clipboard lock" I found something that was new to me in Win7: The clipboard may be "emptied" with a special command sequence. --> http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-empty-the-clipboard-in-windows-7-tip/ Well, I do not know, if this works while FrameMaker is still running... Maybe the "blocking" is stronger... Or: You could try one of the many "Clipboard manager" utilities to see if using them can help you out. Good luck - Tino H. Haida, Berlin Linda Rose: > FM 10 is not copying anything on the Windows clipboard after a while. It only pastes the last thing copied within FM. -Original Message- From: framers-bounces at lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of David Creamer Sent: 11 September 2013 13:55 To: framers at lists.frameusers.com Subject: Re: Inserting inline graphics What about converting the graphic to a font? http://www.fontlab.com/font-editor/typetool/ David Creamer IDEAS Training http://www.ideastraining.com Adobe Authorized Instructor & Certified Expert since 1995 ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as alastair.dent at imgtec.com. FM 10 find/replace in selection not working if using Change and Find
Yesterday, while attempting to do a series of find/replace actions in a selected table I found that there is a bug that prevents that if you attempt to step through the selected area with the Change and Find button . After the first change the select area is deselected and the message "Not found" is displayed. The same happens with a simple text range (non-table). Is this the expected behavior? Note that the Change All action completes successfully, but that means you must be sure that all occurrences of the target have to change. Craig -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Hi Ed, probably your colors are set to automatically separate to CMYK in Illustrator: If you use a pantone library, all colors here are by default defined as CMYK-separating colors, although a pantone value is displayed in the color window... => Set the two colors to "spotcolor" in the color options (swatch options). A small dot will then be visible in each color (in the swatches palette for the document). After this, when producing a PDF, set the output option to "no color conversion". The pantone colors will then have their own plates in the pdf as spot colors. I am working on multiple versions of docs, and finding it difficult to ensure that changes that get added to an earlier version get propogated throughout the following versions. I know that our developers use Perforce to do a "merge" so all changes get into the main files. It there something like this for FrameMaker? I am using 10, soon upgrading to 11. To Ann @ Adobe ... Downloading Adobe webinar recordings
Hi Ann, Earlier today, you provided the a link to http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=list <http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=list=en_us=ondemand_seminar=Technical+Communication+Suite est=> =en_us=ondemand_seminar=Technical+Communication+Suite== (if I got it correct), so that we could download the various wonderful seminars. That would be most helpful, I think. Thank you very much. Elchanan -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you need to do that, unstructured FrameMaker's not a good tool since you can't merge to .fm files. Structured FrameMaker could work, but if you're migrating from unstructured FrameMaker, there may be better choices, such as MadCap Flare. Yeah, FrameMaker's workflow isn't good for that. That's one reason I avoid icon characters and in favor of tooltips. You could probably automate it with FrameScript.
