Do you think it's possible that the trial version does not include access to
updates?

If it's working, why spend time fixing what ain't broke?

Amazingly, no it doesn't.
If it magically knows that it's under the same license as our other copies
despite the IT person's trial install, that would be fine.
If it stops working, it will prompt for a license.

I expect you can do a custom installation and not include the acrobat part.
But my experience with updating is that is it does clobber Acrobat with the
headless version, doing an update from the Adobe Update Manager with fix that.

Hi Framers,
I am presently using structured FrameMaker version 8 on Windows XP. (And we

1. I acquired the first download for TCS 5 on 2014.01.21, the day

Can it be that I can only install under

That's what the support tech was trying to tell me!
Thanks,

Hi Theresa,
I haven't tried installing it anywhere else, but if you have other problems
and call support, they may ask you where it is installed. If you tell them
anywhere else beside the default location, they may insist that you start
there. I am not sure there is any benefit to not installing
You've already done the important step of testing out your FM8 material in a 12
trial - your biggest changes will be the new UI and perhaps old fonts - Unicode
came in there somewhere around FM7/8.

Your FM8 templates should work fine in FM12 and you've already
discovered that some plugins will need updates to work.
You said you lost your FM8 disk. It probably wouldn't work anyway, since
there was a Windows change that broke it. You can download a fixed
version of the installation file
