Re: [Framers] Replace URLs

2016-12-21 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain
Just verified that it works in 64-bit Windows - I had recompiled it last year
and forgot that I had done so. Just have not used it in a while. :)

On my laptop, it changed one 5 character string to another in 100 files (15k
lines of text) in just over 1 second (not in verbose or query mode, of course).

I have not done thousands of files, but what has worked easily for me is a tool
I wrote that (runs in a DOS command window, unfortunately) converts text from
one string to another.

Since you can wild-card the input for the filenames, it can operate on all the
files in one go! Only operates on text, so you have to be sure to use MIF files
only.

This can be dangerous if you do not know exactly what you want, but it has
verbose output and a query mode to allow me to check the changes (this would be
impractical for thousands of files - but once you are sure of the change not
being too global, then letting it run automatically is okay).

1. I save the files as text MIF files.
2. Copy them into a separate working folder for safety, till I am sure of the
change.
3. Run my tool on all the files in that working folder, with query on till I am
sure that it is working the way I want, then go for it!

If you are interested in this command tool (I have to make sure it works in
64-bit Windows though), let me know!

Subject: [Framers] Replace URLs

Hi, guys. My company is reorganizing its SharePoint infrastructure with the new
year by moving a whole bunch of SP project folders. My documentation has
thousands of URL to files and folders on multiple SP sites that are going to be
consolidated to one SP site, hence, breaking every one of my links.

This means I need to change the root part of thousands of URLs from one address
to another. This has to be applicable against a whole book and not file by
file...I have over 1,000 FM 11 files

What are my options?

Thanks

John Posada
