Re: [Framers] Frame 2017 Export to Word
They could use SmartDocs and have the best of both worlds. Actually, the conditional stuff would probably be a lot better than unstructured FrameMaker. On 12/19/17, A Craig wrote: > ... Have you linked FrameMaker projects to RoboHelp before? If not, and FrameMaker's subset of RoboHelp features don't do the trick for you, my cheat sheet might help make up for Adobe's weak documentation on the subject. http://lauriston.com/fm10_link_to_rh9.zip On 12/18/17, Robert Lauriston wrote: > You could output to Word and import that in FrameMaker. > > Or if you can get your hands on a copy of Flare, import the RoboHelp > projects and export them to FrameMaker. > > On 12/18/17, Tammy Van Boening wrote: >> So, I have no idea if this is even possible/ever been tried, but for >> a variety of reasons that aren't important here, I have inherited a >> truckload of CHM projects done in Robohelp directly - not from Frame >> to RH. Re: [Framers] Frame 2017 Export to Word
You can save as RTF, which opens directly in Word. You can then do a save as in Word if you want .docx format. I use this so when an engineer wants a Word file for commenting. There are numerous formatting issues and other issues with the exported files, but they are good enough for adding comments (with tracked changes). I would not recommend using the exported files in any other way. -- Shmuel Wolfson Technical Writer 058-763-7133 On 20-Dec-17 8:22 AM, A Craig wrote: Maybe I've imaged it, but I seem to remember threads re: exporting Frame 2017 to Word? (I'm still on Frame 12) Is this possible? Does it result in a usable doc (ie, is the formatting decent?) I was at a job interview today and it sounds like they could really use the Conditional aspects of Frame in order to deliver various flavours of the same manuals. However, they have done without a tech writer for a while and like the fact that their engineers can simply go into a Word doc and make changes themselves. I thought they might try exporting to Word so the engineers could (with Track Changes on) make edits in Word. Then the new tech writer - preferably me ;-))) - could incorporate those changes into the Frame docs. If this is their approach, I would enquire very carefully into their attitude to the qualify of their documentation and what they hope to gain by having a full-time tech writer on board. I can see frustration ahead for you. -- Steve ___ This message is from the Framers mailing list Send messages to framers@lists.frameusers.com Visit the list's homepage at http://www.frameusers.com Archives located at http://www.mail-archive.com/framers%40lists.frameusers.com/ Subscribe and unsubscribe at http://lists.frameusers.com/listinfo.cgi/framers-frameusers.com Send administrative questions to listad...@frameusers.com
