2019-03-11 Thread Robert Lauriston
I strongly recommend starting with one of the smallest docs to learn
the process.

If due to bad formatting in the Word source the import is not clean
and needs a lot of work, you might try the convert-to-zip-and-extract
approach.

2019-03-11 Thread David Creamer
If I might suggest a slightly different way of getting the graphics out of a
Word file (works for PowerPoint too)...

Make sure the file is in the .docx format, not .doc (and .pptx, not .ppt)
Make a copy of the file for safety
Change the file extension from .docx to .zip
Open the zip file
Look for the doc folder (or ppt)
Look for the media folder
All the graphics are there--usually in a higher quality than a web export

Re: [Framers] Best Method, Word 2013 to Frame 2019.

2019-03-11 Thread quills
If you are going to import into a stricter FameMaker environment, then you
conversion table will help cut down on your mania formatting. If it isn’t
structured then the other suggestions to use he plugins are a great way to go.
Mostly, people use line formatting instead of the paragraph and character tags,
which makes transformation more difficult and manual.
I always export the Word document to RTF first to import the text, then I save
the word/RTF file as a web page (html). This extracts all of the graphics for
import by reference or other graphic manipulation.

If everything is tagged as Normal, you can do a find/replace in Word to
find specific character formats, such as a specific font size, a certain
font, or bold, and replace with a specific style. Word's Find/Replace is
very good. To do this, leave the Find box blank.

The import usually isn't an issue because FM has improved the import
facility a lot; the reformatting to FM tags is usually the big thing.

Rick Quattro's RindChangeFormatsBatch is the best tag and style remapping

2019-03-11 Thread Jeff Coatsworth
There's a couple of ways I recall:
- make sure that your source Word files have well-defined styles and match them
in FM for best import matching; clean up still required to get images etc. over
- copy and paste Word content as text and style accordingly in FM; cleanest
method; can be facilitated by setting your maker.ini to put the TEXT paste at
the beginning of the string of formats so that a regular Ctl-V paste acts like
a paste-special text only paste (saved me a bucket of time)
