xnumber in page headings

$curpagenum, the same as in the problematic book. I've searched FrameMaker Help and this list for info about xnumber and about displaying variables. Is there a display setting that is causing this problem? Do I have two totally different variables? What does the red color on the # sign mean? Bill

QuickAccess and Formatting Bar disappeared!

I'm working with FrameMaker 7.2 2b144 on an XP machine. I reloaded FrameMaker on a new machine and was working along nicely, when I noticed that the QuickAccess bar and Formatting Bar were gone. I went under View and enabled the bars, but they don't show up in FrameMaker. I closed FM and
