Character formatting in run head variables

2007-12-10 Thread Michael.Long
My partner is unable to figure out how enable character formatting in running heads through wither Running H/F 2 or a custom user variable. Specifically, in certain Heading 1s we use a homemade character consisting of capital R with a strikethrough bar across it. We also selectively italicize

Huntley--Thanks but we know how to apply the building blocks. The challenge is finding a trick to enable a selectively applied character format, like two italic letters or R with a strikethrough, to be reproduced by the H/F 2 system variable. Or, a trick to enable using a custom variable in the

Good guess. Fixing was no sweat with the trusty file comparison summary, which I would've used anyway. Mike -Original Message- From: Combs, Richard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 22, 2007 2:11 PM To: Long, Michael (TH USA); framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: RE:

Jenelle, We use a FrameMaker-Word combination in a process similar to that described by someone else, and it can be fairly painless although not ideal of course. And despite the kludgy sound of it, our productivity has been steadily improving since converting from Word a few years ago. But

Disk vs memory

2007-01-30 Thread Michael.Long
All, My associate and I have just discovered that all our work in FrameMaker yesterday is likely lost. The network people were updating servers yesterday and unknowingly lost our files and probably others. Can anyone tell if and where I can find those files on our C drives, which I assume is the

Can't you ask your network admin to restore your files. They have to back up the network regularly. If they can't give you the latest, at least they should be able to restore to a recent save. So it won't be a total loss. Good point Clara. But for the update process they copy all dirs

Greg, Regarding: Omsys.com's rtf export filter would do the best job if they want to use Word because it mimics the tags pretty well. As soon as your client actually starts editing, though, they're going to notice lots of discrepancies in appearance. Might not matter to them though, if they

Paul, Could folks give me their thoughts on TrackChanges and Multiple Undo (beta) from intech dot com? A year or two ago I installed TrackChanges on FrameMaker 7.0p579. Afterward FrameMaker began crashing when I edited text. Never had done so previously. I eventually figured out that deleting

Conditional text page problem

2006-10-28 Thread Michael.Long
All, We are making our first venture into conditional text, with two files of three conditions per file. (FrameMaker 7.1 with current patches, XP sp2) The main problem so far is that pages from a condition of longer text remain as blanks when a condition with shorter content is applied.

Bernard-- Please send the PDF, or a link to it if that's more convenient. I think I will have time to experiment with it over the next couple of months. A question please: If I wanted to send the resulting XML output to others for editing, what inexpensive/open source tool with wysiwyg
