Re: [Framers] Why do my ohm symbols keep turning into capital O?

2017-05-01 Thread Lin Sims
Hmmm. ASCII was the wrong word. Apparently, I wanted ANSI. Sorry about the
confusion. Alt+234 (not 0234) on the numeric keypad is the correct shortcut
in both FrameMaker and other Windows programs for inserting the ohm
character into text. I've used the same key sequence in Word, and
PowerPoint. Interestingly, while it doesn't work in Notetab Lite, it does
work in Notepad++. Go figure.

Yes, I know that the ohm symbol is a capital omega. I happen to work in the
circuit design industry, so ohms are rather on my mind. :)

Even more interestingly, reinstalling the Myriad/Myriad Pro font set seems
to have resolved the issue. I hate not knowing why something's gone wrong,
but as long as it is now going correctly, I'll refrain from looking the
gift horse in the mouth. Too many other things to handle!

Re: [Framers] Why do my ohm symbols keep turning into capital O?

2017-04-28 Thread shuttie27
Hello Lin. A few thoughts that may go some of the way to clearing up the
mystery. Forgive me if these are already familiar to you.1. What you call the
ohm symbol is actually the Greek capital omega.2. Adobe Myriad Pro does indeed
include a glyph for this as well as other Greek capitals.3. However, ASCII 0234
is not a capital omega. In fact the ASCII table contains no Greek letters at
all. ASCII 0234 is an e with a circumflex accent.4. The Unicode code for
capital omega is, as Rob said, U3A9.
All these being so, I would try inserting the correct code using the character
palette and see what happens then.
Seems to me the real mystery is why Alt 0234 inserts an omega in the first
place!
Hope this helps somewhat.

Re: [Framers] Why do my ohm symbols keep turning into capital O?

2017-04-28 Thread Ken Poshedly
It works just fine here.

   - FrameMaker 11.0 on a Windows 7 Professional platform

   - Heading fonts = Arial
   - Body text = New Times Roman

Alt 234 = the ohm symbol both visually and on printed page, even after closing
the file and reopening it.
Maybe we're just not sophisticated enough.

the issue, and I wasn't aware of the key sequences Robert mentions. I'll
keep an eye on it and let y'all know if it happens again now that I've

Re: [Framers] Why do my ohm symbols keep turning into capital O?

2017-04-28 Thread Lin Sims
Craig,

The substitution is always a possibility, although why it would make a
substitution when the font is installed is beyond me.

I've just reinstalled it, on the theory that Windoze iz weird.

By turning into, I meant that I type the ohm symbol by using the ASCII code
(Alt+234) for it, and it displays as an ohm symbol.

At some point afterwards, I reopen the file and discover it is no longer
displaying as an ohm symbol, it is a capital O, and it copies and pastes
into other programs as an O. Haven't tried applying a character tag to it,
but if it happens again I may try the Symbol font. Although seriously, if
it's Unicode it shouldn't be an issue. That's why we USE a Unicode font.
