I've had this problem after upgrading to Acrobat 8.0 -- distiller always
leaves the .tps file in the directory. Frequently, the distiller job
initiated from Frame isn't successful. Sometimes, I can double-click the
.tps file and distill that successfully. It's generally cleaning up the
.tpdf,
I searched a bit more in the Adobe forum. It looks like this is a known
issue that won't be resolved until it's changed in FrameMaker:

I am using FrameScript to save a bunch of FrameMaker documents to PDF. The
script has been used sucessfully with Distiller 7.0.x. With Distiller 8.1, I

I am seeing exactly the same thing - no scripts in use, but I
see the occasional crash, and the same files as you noted left
behind in the directory, even though it did not happen with version
8.0.
