Re: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
Hi, did anyone notice if this change of the registry key affects the behavior of the numeric key pad for other use? i.e. does the normal ALT sequence for ASCII characters still work? Hi, did anyone notice if this change of the registry key affects the behavior of the numeric key pad for other use? i.e. does the normal ALT sequence for ASCII characters still work? I noticed no change. The alt keypad keys still work normally-- hold down the alt key, type the four digit extended ASCII code, and then release the alt key. For Unicode characters, you hold down the alt key, _press and release the plus key_, press and release the Unicode code numbers/letters, and then release the alt key. Of course, the font must support those Unicode characters. Press the Alt key and type your Unicode, then release the alt key. Amnon. Re: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
I want to enter some unicode (but non-ANSI) characters into an English language document (such as primes and double primes-u2032; and u2033; respectively-being symbols use in specifying latitude and longitude). I'm stuffed if I can work out how to do this directly in FM. The only method I'm aware of is to cut and paste characters from the Windows Character Map program. Re: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
Press the Alt key and type your Unicode, then release the alt key. That only works for the 256 extended ASCII characters for me. How are you entering the Unicode characters with higher values, such as U+0416? Alt-416 and Alt-0416 both produce characters, but neither are the correct Unicode character. (I used the Arial Unicode MS font.) Re: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
Mike, For U+0416, you normally do alt/0,4,1,6 . I have already heard of such problems as you describe because of Windows' bad implementation of Unicode at lower levels. That might be sometimes related to interaction with a specific font. Have you tried switching fonts? You might also have a look at a very convenient utility called PopChar Win, which you can find at http:// www.macility.com/products/popcharwin/ and which I use without a glitch on Frame 8 / Windows XP (MacBook Pro+VMWare Fusion). RE: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
It embarasses me to say, this, really it does, but … I looked in the Office online help!!! To enter a Unicode character, enter codeALT+X. For instance, to type €, the Euro symbol, type 20ac then press ALT+X. It works in Office 2007; I don't know about earlier versions. = Mike Bradley www.techpubs.com ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.
Re: Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
Geoffrey, The first method described here (How to enter Unicode characters in Microsoft Windows) http://www.fileformat.info/tip/microsoft/enter_unicode.htm does work for me in FM8. You probably need to set the registry key EnableHexNumpad as described. If you don't know your unicode (hex) values inside out, BabelMap http://www.babelstone.co.uk/Software/BabelMap.html is a cute tool to determine, convert and search for unicode chars (valuable tip by Stefan Gentz). Kind regards, Klaus --- Original Message --- From: Geoffrey Marnell Date: 01.06.2008 02:37 Hi Framers, I'm tired of pulling my hair out trying to find an answer to this in the FM 8 OLH, so over to you... I'm stuffed if I can work out how to do this directly in FM. There is a long-winded workaround: type the character in MSWord (2032 + ALT + x gives the prime, for example), copy it, and then paste it into FM (Paste Special -- Unicode Text). But surely there is an easier way than this. Ideas?
