Hi David, I've encountered the same hanging issue when using the mouse to select with FM 7.0 on Win 7 64-bit. Never had that problem with Win XP either. My solution, when I need to use FM 7, is to not do that as much as possible. I've pretty much trained myself to use keyboard selection (and save a lot). My hands still mess up from time-to-time. I've noticed that it happens more when you hesitate or pause a bit longer during the mouse-drag selection. It usually works if you are quick about it--but still not worth hanging with no .recover file if you haven't saved recently. I don't have this problem with FM 10 on Win 7 64-bit, and I've tried it with a long pause during the drag just to be sure. I don't minimize windows much (2 big displays), so I don't know about that. FrameMaker 8 pre-dates Windows 7 by quite a bit, and I'm not surprised that it's not compatible. But there is hope. After I was forcibly migrated to Win 7, FM 7.2 crashed hard whenever I drag-selected text. Now I'm more or less successfully running it by using the compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 (more or less because this makes disk operations -- opening and saving files -- very slow). Other compatibility settings might work better for FM 8. A fair amount of experimenting may be required. To get started, go to your FM home folder, right-click FrameMaker.exe, and select Troubleshoot compatibility. You might also want to search the Adobe FM forums and FrameUsers.com for Windows 7 compatibility or variations of that to see if there are specific suggestions/hints. Richard G. As another data point, I use Frame 8 all the time on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit without any problems. Check your Help | About and make sure you are using Frame 8.0p277. David, Ive seen the same thing when highlighting with a mouse with my installation of FM 8 on Win 7 64-bit. I dont recall ever having that problem in all the years I used FM 8 on Win XP. Hi I just upgraded to Win 7 32-bit last week. Today is the first day I've done some real editing in Frame 8 and I haven't noticed any problems. Copying and pasting text from one file to another is OK, as is minimising a document or Frame itself. I have version 8.0p277.
