I also use (and like) the various Xara products ... far more cost-effective
than Adobe equivalents, although the yearly (or so it seems) upgrade prices
leave a bit to be desired.

When I get mechanical dwgs from the engineers, they're saved directly from
SolidWorks in AI format.
