Thanks for clarifying this, Dov. I knew about the second part but not the 
first. You may well have saved me from the frustrations of buying a Windows 
upgrade and then finding that I couldn't install it.

I'm not trying to imply that Adobe are being unreasonable, only trying to work 
out what is my best course of action to get off Mac. I could not find anything 
on FrameMaker cross-grades on the Adobe website.

Most programs have a limit to how old your previous version can be and 
still upgrade. One Adobe saleperson told me they usually let you upgrade 
for about 4 new versions, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I 
upgraded from 7.2 to 9, just in case they wouldn't allow me to upgrade 
past 9.

less than warm welcome of FrameMaker 10 (and, for that matter, 9), maybe I 
should look for a full copy of Windows FrameMaker 8 on eBay or elsewhere?

I have never been sure how the Adobe crossgrade procedure works, and 
specifically, the check process for a valid existing copy.

Any information welcomed.
